Deportivo’s players have suffered six relapses in just the first month of competition; the cases aren’t related, but it’s a worrying situation complicating the options of Oltra in order to prepare the matches.

It’s well known that the injuries are hitting Deportivo since the season began, but a worrying facet is that the relapses are now a usual thing at Abegondo. In just one month the coaching staff has saw how six players have suffered relapses, which in the end are only extending their absence from the pitch as normally the doctors have to be more cautions with these kinds of cases occur.

The last relapse has been Manuel Pablo; the Canarian right-back defender suffered a hamstring strain injury three weeks ago, he was rejoining the trainings on the past week, but on the last session before the trip to Alcorcón he suffered a relapse. The latest scans indicated that the player suffered an elongation on the hamstring muscle that was previously injured, which means that the previous wound isn’t healed yet. Now it is expected that he will be out for three or four weeks.

Bruno Gama was the first relapse; The Portuguese winger fell down injured during the Teresa Herrera meeting with Sevilla CF after sustaining a tear of the adductor tendon on his right thigh. He was also close to return, but suffered a relapse two weeks ago during a training session. Right now he’s under treatment and it isn’t discarded yet a possible surgery.

Saul is the next name on the list, he suffered an muscular elongation during the friendly match with Real Oviedo (August 4); he returned and played against Hércules and Barcelona B, but in this last match he fell down injured again; and the scans determined that the player had a tear in the same muscle injured before. The winger could be back on this week after missing the last three liga encounters.

Maybe the most polemic case is midfielder Borja Fernandez; his signing was protested by the fans, not only for been an ex-Celta player, but mainly because he was injured at the moment of signing his contract. He had a groin surgery during the summer and his return was expected to occur two weeks ago, but suddenly the player started to feel pain, now he is under treatment and without a fixed date for his debut with Deportivo.

Another surprising case is Xisco; the Majorcan attacker suffered a knock on his right foot during the match with Hércules; it was reported that it wasn’t a major problem, and the player was even picked for the meeting with Barcelona B, but he hasn’t played any game since then. The scans determined that the previous muscular injury hasn’t healed yet. It has been reported that he won’t be rushed for the match with CD Guadalajara, meaning that he the attacker will have to wait for another week.

Finally, the case with Pablo Álvarez; the winger sustained a knock on his left leg during the liga meeting with Hércules; he was able to end the match, but missed the Copa clash with Girona. Oltra forced his return for the game with Barcelona B and suffered a relapse –The coach later admitted his mistake-The scans detected a hamstring strain injury in the same joint of the previous injury. Since he was going to be out for three weeks, he was operated from a nose fracture, an injured suffered during the pre-season. He will be out at least for two more weeks.

All these six cases aren’t related, but it’s disturbing to realize of the situation, especially since the season is just starting. The worst part is that a relapse needs more precaution measures, because a short-term case can easily become into a long absence, and this only increases the problems for Oltra at the moment of planning the matches. A headache taking in mind that Depor has to play seven matches in October.
