SEARCHING FOR REINFORCEMENTS?

19 Oct 2011
It’s only October, but the transfer rumours already appeared at Deportivo. It is commented that Lendoiro is searching for a striker and an offensive midfielder.

It seems that the latest results are getting nervous some people at Deportivo, because the first transfer rumours are appearing in the papers. It all started on the past Saturday after the disappointing draw with Nastic (2-2) as Radio Galega was informing that Lendoiro was negotiating with agent Jorge Mendes the possible arrival of a new striker.

And it shouldn’t be a surprise, because the current four strikers at the first team are living a bad moment. Lassad has only scored twice in la liga and his big miss against Gimnástic has rested some points to him, while Xisco, Riki and Bodipo remain scoreless and have spent more time at the injury room.

Radio Galega released a list of eight Portuguese and Brazilian strikers that were on target, and later journalist Gonzalo Soto informed that the chosen one was Wilson Bruno Naval da Costa Eduardo (21, Sporting Clube de Portugal).

Wilson Eduardo is a young Portuguese attacker that joined the youth system of Sporting at the age of 13 and that has spent the last two years loaned at small clubs of Portugal; currently he is performing loaned at S.C. Olhanense, the eighth place at the Portuguese Primeira Liga. It would be a similar deal to Salomão, player that came loaned from Sporting thanks to the intermediation of Jorge Mendes.

Meanwhile, Sportpaper Marca was reporting on Tuesday that the club is searching for an offensive midfield at the transfer market, no names were revealed, but the source was basing the operation in the fact that the club isn’t happy with the performance of Jesús Vázquez, who has been the starting choice of Oltra alongside Álex Bergantiños. The same source admits that other options are to give a more protagonic role to Juan Dominguez and Juan Carlos, youngsters that haven’t had too many minutes on this season.

In any case, president Augusto César Lendoiro is avoiding to talk of transfer rumours, instead he is showing his support towards the current team, as he said on Monday, "I have faith in this team, it is a great squad, everybody in La Coruña says it, also in Spain and the rest of the world, now we need to demonstrate it. Truly we have had endless injury cases; when someone was returning we had a new muscular injury; it created problems to build up a team."
