The striking line continues to be the weakest link at Deportivo; Riki is again injured; Xisco might be picked for the clash with Elche, but was dragging problems on this week. Bodipo doesn’t count and Lassad only convinced in a few matches.

Deportivo still facing big problems with its strikers; last season, between the physical problems and the lack of aim, the attackers at the team scored seventeen goals in thirty-eight matches (0.45 goals per match); it wasn’t enough to achieve the permanence.

Now, the team is at Segunda and there were high expectations on the strikers, but things haven’t changed so much. So far the four strikers have scored eight goals in thirteen matchdays, which means an average of 0.61 goal per match, not a big difference compared to the stat on last season.

And the main problem has been the injuries, because three of the four attackers at the team have suffered at least one physical problem sidelining them from competition. The most evident case has been Riki; on Sunday the Madrilenian sustained his 19th muscular injury since his arrival to Depor in 2006 and now will remain out for almost a month.

Riki already scored four goals in nine appearances on the Segunda season, but has completed the full ninety minutes in just two opportunities, while he already left the pitch twice due to a physical problem. The ex-Getafe man was expecting to pass the mark of the ten goals in favour, and will have problems to do so if his endless muscular problems continue.

Another striker facing physical problems is Xisco, there were high hopes on him, but so far he has just completed 67 minutes on the pitch (home match against Hércules CF). The problem for him has been a muscular injury that kept him at bay for two months, he joined the trainings last week and on Wednesday he was already having a new muscular problem. Oltra still has to decide if the Majorcan man should be picked for the trip to Elche.

Bodipo is the third striker that already faced an injury problem; it kept him out for three weeks, but on his case there are more difficulties as he is a discard of Oltra, so far he has only played 46 minutes distributed in three games, and it was because both Xisco and Riki were unavailable.

All these problems have left Oltra only with Lassad Nouioui as a fixed choice for all the matches; actually the Tunisian is one of the six players at the team that has participated in all the thirteen matches played on the Segunda season.

But the problem of Lassad is not related to the physical issue but to his instable performance; and it’s that the ex-Fabril has mixed great matches with long periods in which he ends exasperating the fans. A small example was what happened in the derby with RC Celta, match in which he barely appeared after replacing Riki until scoring a great goal that meant the three points.

This is the background that Oltra has been facing at this start of season; truly Depor is among the top five teams in the league in terms of goals in favour, but it doesn’t mean that the Valencian coach is not having problems in this department. The injuries are the main threat for the attackers at the team, and later there’s the problem with the aim and the form, and all of this just increases the rumors towards a possible signing during the winter window.
