REVIEW: LALIN 0 – FABRIL 1 (TERCERA)

07 Dec 2011
Fourth away win for Deportivo B during the season. The saves of Marc Martinez plus an impossible goal from Juan Carlos earned the three points to a Fabril that still on track at Tercera División.

BEFORE THE GAME
Coach Tito Ramallo was having important casualties for the meeting, once again the problems were focused at the wings as Julien and Víctor Diaz were out injured; Diego Vela was part of the list for the clash, but was on the bench as he wasn’t at 100%. Captain Diego Vieytes, centre midfielder Richi and playmaker David Garcia were also out; to make things worse centre midfielder Pedro Crespo and right-back Adriá Gallego were suspended. At least left-back defender Ángel Martinez was returning from a one-match ban.

The draw was a 4-2-3-1 scheme, Marc Martinez was at the goal, Jose Manuel covered the right-back position, Ángel was at the left side, while the central defenders were Stefan Deak and Pablo ÍnsuaDiego Vieytes and Adrián Martinez were the pivotes, striker Álex Pérez was attacking from the right wing, Iago Beceiro did it from the left, the playmaker in the formation was Juan Carlos, and the central attackers was David Cubillas.

The rival was Pontevedra-based club CD Lalín, team that’s the last place at the standings and that had only picked one victory on the season, actually they were coming after a terrible rally of only three points added within the last twelve matches. The new coach of the team is Javier Oreiro, who replaced Perfecto Rodríguez ‘Peluso’, while the familiar face at the team was former Fabril’s defender Ruben Méndez, who was a starter at the local team.

THE MATCH
It seemed that Depor B was not going to have major problems against the worst team at the Galician group of Tercera División, but Ramallo’s boys faced a bigger opposition of what was expected. In the end the bad state of the pitch was an obstacle for both teams, and only the saves of visiting goalie Marc Martinez -five in the whole game- plus the sensational goal of Juan Carlos brought the points to Abegondo.

The big problem of Fabril was the lack of depth on the wings, because Iago Beceiro and Alex Pérez were playing towards the centre, which made easier the life for Lalin. For this reason the best chances for Depor B came through long-range shots plus set-pieces. The locals had the initiative in the first part, though they only had a few clear opportunities, the main one was a high volley of defender Rubén Varela ‘Canutas’ that hit the crossbar (2’).

The other was a short-range attempt of striker David Soares that meant the first big save of Marc Martinez (22’). Despite not having the ball possession, the major part of the scoring opportunities were for Fabril, starting with a header of Stefan Deak that missed the target (24’). The other chances for the visitors were long-distance shots of Adrian Martinez and Juan Carlos, but they missed the target. The clearest opportunity was a long-range shot of Ínsua that was blocked by local keeper Marcos Macía and then he made a second save as the loose ball was recovered by Alex Pérez.

For the second part Ramallo tried to add more depth to his team, in this way he replaced Alex Pérez with Luis Fernandez.  The change wasn’t successful in the sense of improving the game by the wings, but at least Depor B had the ball possession, but curiously the major part of the scoring opportunities were for the locals.

The show of Catalan keeper Marc Martinez started at minute 57 as he stopped a crossed shot from midfielder Marcos Antonio Vázquez ‘Basán, then he blocked the attempt of David Soares in a one-on-one action (71’). And then, without any warning as the visitors didn’t have any other scoring chance in the second part, it came one of the best goals on the season to bring the three points to Deportivo B.

It was a play on the left wing in which Angel Martinez assisted Juan Carlos, who later ran a couple of meters into the edge of the area to end releasing an impressive curved shot that went directly into the top-left corner of a desperate Marcos Macía. It’s the ninth goal on the season for the playmaker.

For the final ten minutes Ramallo sent Diego Vela to replace Iago Beceiro, the coach was trying to add speed for the counterattack, but the side that had the last scoring chances was Lalin, and again Marc Martinez had to make the saves, first clearing over the bar a high cross of Matelo (81’), and then blocking a downward header of David Soares (86’). The final modification for Fabril was made in the stoppage time as Álvaro Queijero replaced Juan Carlos.

AFTER THE GAME
Fabril adds its fourth victory within the last five games as it was facing the last place at the standings, but it was a hard match as Marc Martinez had to make five big saves to keep the clean sheet, while Juan Carlos had to invent a marvelous goal to claim the three points. The win leaves Fabril in the fight for the first four places; Ramallo’s boys are fifth, just three points below second place CD Ourense and five under leader Racing Vilalbés. Thursday is a free day in Galicia –celebration of the Immaculate Conception- and Depor B will host 16th place Cultural Areas (17h00 CET).
