Oltra has used the couple Colotto-Ze Castro at the centre of the defense during the last four liga meetings, and with both men on the pitch Deportivo has only allowed one goal. It could be the path to improve the numbers at defense.

Football coaches always say that the defensive tasks at any team rely on all the players and not only in the defenders, but there are some statistics that demonstrate that certain moves at defense might cause a deep impact, and thatís happening right now at Deportivo.

Until matchday 14, coach Oltra was trusting in the couple Aythami-Colotto for the centre of the defense, and the team struggled at defense as it allowed twenty goals within the period. At the time there was a lot of criticism towards the way of defending, and particularly the critics were all over Aythami, who was criticized for his constant errors.

For matchday 15, against UD Almeria at the Riazor, Aythami was suspended and for the first time on the season Oltra chose the combination Colotto-Ze Castro, and Depor didnít allow a goal until the Portuguese defender got injured at minute 74, then Manuel Pablo replaced him and the Galicians allowed a goal two minutes before the final whistle, though Depor clinched a comfortable 3-1 win.

For the following matchday Ze Castro stayed at the starting eleven, once again he was replaced at minute 76, but the defense kept the clean sheet in the tough visit to Real Valladolid, that was the fifth clean sheet on the season.

And within the last two liga games, Ze Castro didnít suffer any muscular problem and therefore played the full ninety minutes, and Depor only allowed one goal during the matches against CD Numancia (3-1) and UD Las Palmas (1-0). That goal against Numancia came in a set-piece, a free-kick coming from the left in which Julio Ńlvarez put the ball between Colotto and Ayoze to see Juanjo scoring through a header.

In resume, the combination Ze Castro-Colotto has only allowed one goal after 332 minutes on the pitch; it might not be an impressive mark, but itís an important starting point taking in mind the defensive mismatches witnessed at the beginning of the season.
