Deportivo resumed the trainings after the Christmas break; Guardado skipped the session, while Bodipo has surprisingly joined Equatorial Guinea national team ahead of the African Cup.

The first training session of 2012 took place on Monday’s morning at Abegondo; it was an intense physical and tactical session for the players after one and a half week without working, though the players trained by their own during the vacations as they followed a special routine prepared by Depor’s coaches.

There were several novelties on the first training of the year; Xisco and Riki were working at the same pace than the rest, which demonstrates that both are available for Oltra ahead of the meeting with Xérez CD.

At the same time, it was surprising to notice the absence of Rodolfo Bodipo; at the beginning it was thought that the striker had a delay traveling to La Coruña, but later it was knew that the reason was the CAN African Cup of Nations, and it’s that Bodipo has been picked by Equatorial Guinea for the tournament that begins on January 21.

Bodipo will miss one month of competition due to this reason; his departure wasn’t the fact that surprised reporters, but that Deportivo informed about it until Monday. In any case, the return of Xisco and Riki means that Oltra already has three strikers available for the league competition.

Another player that wasn’t at Abegondo is Andrés Guardado; the Mexican winger had problems traveling from North America and his plane was arriving until Monday’s noon; he even trained during the afternoon and should join the rest of the team for today’s session. During Monday the rumours continued about his incorporation in June to Valencian CF.

Meanwhile, Claudio Morel and Manuel Pablo trained apart as they are recovering from their previous injuries. It isn’t clear yet if both men will be fit to play for the weekend; the Paraguayan is dragging a hip injury from last year, while the Canarian only played twelve minutes in the Copa clash with Levante UD due to a muscular problem.

Borja Fernandez talked at the press room after the session and he said that, ”I believe everybody thought that this was going to be easier, but we realized that you need to sweet in order to achieve the promotion. The goal on the season is to clinch the promotion. It will be important to defeat Xérez, because people will realize that we aren’t relaxed.”
