After a 2-1 victory at Villaviciosa against Lealtad C.F. Deportivo B is preparing the return leg of the semifinals. Next season, a promising midfielder of a club from the La Coru?a area could join Deportivo’s second team.

?Three more matches to glory? that could be the slogan of Deportivo B in their quest for returning to Segunda B after five years in the Third Division (Galicia). The team secured its first ever Third Division title a few weeks back, but the real goal is the promotion to Segunda B, Spain’s third highest league. Deportivo B has been there in the 1991-1992 season, from 1995 to 1999 and during the 2000-2001 season. After that, the team competed twice in the promotion stage, but it never looked as promising as this season.

The first step was done last Sunday with a convincing 2-1 away win against Lealtad C.F. in the first leg of the semifinals of Group A1. And what impressed Tito Ramallo, Deportivo B’s coach, and made him proud was the maturity Depor’s young players have shown. ?I think the maturity was one of the main reasons for our victory. Lealtad’s players committed a lot of fouls, especially on Iago, they tried to intimidate us. But we didn’t give in, we stayed calm. We controlled ourselves, that was our response.?

And if Deportivo B knew how to cope with Lealtad’s aggressiveness last Sunday, they will have to do it again this Saturday at 18.00 at Abegondo. And they have to do it without some of their regular starters. Centre midfielder Alex is doubtful for the match, midfielder Madrigal and centre defender David Rey definitely out for the weekend, right back Rub?n Gonz??lez even for the season. Most probably it will be Chapi moving to defensive midfield to play alongside Carlos Pita with Rub?n Mendez and Adr?an L??pez as centre defenders.

Iv??n Santiago P?rez Maceiras, born 1985 in Santiago de Compostela, is the centre of the attention these days in Galician football. The centre midfielder scored 21 goals in the Third League and was selected as the division’s best player.

Last Saturday he was in action again in the promotion phase for its club, Laracha C.F. Laracha lost the first match 0-3 to visitors A.D. Parla, but that seemingly hasn’t cooled off the interest of Deportivo and other clubs. However, Deportivo was the first club to present an offer to Iv??n P?rez: one valid for the Third Division and one valid for Segunda B in case Deportivo B promotes this season to that league.

Iv??n P?rez isn’t ready to sign yet since there is still a lot at stake for his club (the return leg in Parla, Madrid) and for him since he is preparing his 3rd year university exams at the University of La Coru?a (studying sports). And the player considers his university career prioritarian to other things and thus is reluctant to leave the area of La Coru?a. Maybe a high offer could change his mind, but by joining Deportivo B he could do it both – playing football at a high level and continue studying.
