At the end of the past season people was feeling betrayed by the players, and one of the main targets of the anger was Guardado; now everything has changed and on Saturday the Riazor even asked for his renewal.

In football everything can change in a stroke of a pen, and that it’s what happening to Andrés Guardado. At the end of the past season people were hurt with the relegation to Segunda División and, as is natural, it blamed the players and coaches for the tragedy. One of the main victims of the criticism was the Mexican winger, whose performance didn’t convince anyone, after all he is the most expensive player signed in recent years.

There was even a report that some fans tried to attack him after the 0-2 defeat with Valencia that condemned Depor to Segunda. To make things worse Guardado ends his contract in June and some people feared that this fact was going to affect the commitment of the player with the cause  for the new season, which was no other than the promotion to Primera.

He even was criticized at the beginning of the campaign when his agent, Mario Ordiales, told to reporters that he was searching for a new destiny ahead of next season, actually in the opening matchday before Recreativo he was whistled at the Riazor.

Guardado has tried to avoid the polemic and isn’t talking to reporters throughout this season, the only time he did it was in Mexico in order to reject the comments of his agents and to assure that he was “100% with Deportivo.” And time has giving him the reason.

Because now Deportivo is the leader at Segunda División and Guardado is one of the responsible players for it; the Mexican is the second best scorer at the team with eight goals in favour plus giving five assists; the ex-Atlas man is an undisputed starter and one of the main threats in attack.

The fans have noticed it and, despite been linked with a move to Valencia CF, they are now rediscovering Guardado. He is one of the most respected players at the team as it could be noticed by the fact that he is the current leader in the race for the RCDLC.com player of the season award.

And that respect and love can also be noticed on the pitch; on the past match before Barcelona B the Mexican winger was replaced two minutes before the final whistle by Pablo Álvarez, and a small fraction of the fans at the standings chanted his name asking for his renewal ”Guardado quedate” [Guardado please stay] they said. Life changes. Definitely the sweetest moment for Guardado since his arrival to Deportivo.
