Centre midfielder Jesús Vázquez broke his left fibula during Tuesday’s training session; he was rushed to the hospital and later operated; the Andalusian player will now miss the rest of the Segunda season.

Bad day in the office for Deportivo; on Tuesday centre midfielder Jesús Vázquez broke his left fibula during the training session. The incident occurred in the last part of the session, the players were disputing a training match when a long throw was sent into the area, Fabril’s keeper Marc Martinez, who always take part of the first team’s training sessions, searched for the ball and he didn’t see the Andalusian midfielder coming, both men collided with Jesús taking the worst part.

Immediately, the centre midfielder fell down to the ground and started to scream. He was attended by the doctors of the club and was later stretchered out of the pitch and rushed into the changing room. Then he left Abegondo using crutches, and doctor Ramón Barral rushed him to the hospital.

The scans determined that the player suffered a fibula fracture on his left leg, which includes a tear in the deltoid ligament - medial side of ankle joint- the Andalusian player was operated on Tuesday and will now be out of action for three or four months, which means that he will miss the rest of this season and probably the beginning of the next one.

Jesús Vázquez arrived to Deportivo during the summer signing a two-year contract; he was a regular starter at the beginning of the season, but lost his place at the starting formation after getting a suspension for the derby before RC Celta; he was replaced by Juan Dominguez, who claimed the starting role after making a great match against Depor’s nemesis, since that day he has only played fifteen minutes in liga.

President Augusto César Lendoiro also talked of the case when he gave his press conference on Tuesday, “These are sad news; the season is surely over for him; I talked to him after the operation and he was fine, though sad and upset. Surely he will join us until the next pre-season.
