SIX RED CARDS ON THIS SEASON

03 Apr 2012
Deportivo already saw six red cards on the liga season; it’s the highest number in five years; also, the Galicians already saw 84 yellow cards and four men are at the edge of suspension.

It might seem curious to see Deportivo as one of the teams at Segunda División with more red cards on the season, but it’s the reality. The expulsion of Colotto visiting Girona FC meant the sixth red card on this liga season for Oltra’s outfit, the highest number at the club in five years.

It was the second sent off for the Argentine defender on this campaign, previously he was expelled in the visit to AD Alcorcón, match that Depor ended with nine players on the pitch as Laure was also sent off. The other central defender at the starting formation, Ze Castro, is the other player at the team that was sent off twice on this campaign.

The Portuguese defender was sent off with two yellow cards during the visit to CD Guadalajara and also in the visit to CE Sabadell after a polemic play in which the ball touched his arm, though in this last case the Competition Committee of the Spanish Federation lifted the red card as it was understood that it wasn’t intentional.

The other player of Deportivo that has been sent off on this season is Ayoze Diaz, the Canarian left-back was expelled after cutting a counterattack in the home meeting with FC Cartagena; it was also the earliest red card on this season as the action occurred at minute 17.

Actually, the half of the six red cards on this season occurred before minute 35 (Colotto and Laure were sent off at AD Alcorcón before minute 35), and five of the six expulsions occurred with the team playing away from the Riazor.

In this way Deportivo is the second team at liga Adelante with more red cards on the season, tied with Real Murcia and FC Cartagena, and only one below UD Las Palmas. On the Primera season 2009/10, Depor also saw six red cards, while the highest mark within the last years occurred on the season 2006/07 with Caparrós on board, in that opportunity the team saw twelve red cards: Juanma (2), Arizmendi, Capdevila, Cristian, De Guzmán, Estoyanoff, Andrade, Juan Rodriguez, Lopo, Taborda and Filipe.

Different is the situation with the yellow cards, so far Deportivo’s players have been booked in 84 opportunities, which is the third lowest mark on this Segunda season, only below AD Alcorcón (78) and Gimnástic Tarragona (79). Last season Depor picked 95 yellow cards in 38 matches at Primera División.

The player with more yellow cards on this season is Ayoze Diaz (11); the mark of the Canarian is the seventh highest at Depor within the last two decades: Duscher (16, 2005-06), Lopo (15, 2010-11), Naybet (13, 1997-98), Lopo (13, 2008-09); Rubén Pérez (13, 2010-11) and Boro (12, 1995-96).

Finally, to mention that four players are at the edge of suspension as they have four yellow cards; they are goalkeeper Daniel Aranzubia, centre midfielder Borja Fernandez, left winger Andrés Guardado and right winger Bruno Gama; the quartet might miss the derby before RC Celta is they pick a yellow card in the home meeting before Real Murcia.
