The LFP announced that Deportivo’s fans have been awarded with the player No. 12 trophy; it’s the recognition as the best group of fans at Primera or Segunda División during the present season.

It has been a tough year for Deportivo; the relegation to Segunda División after twenty years at the elite of Spanish football was a hard hit for the fans, but the response has surpassed any expectation as instead of leaving the club alone they’ve increased the support. And it’s that the surpassed the mark of 25,000 socios for the first time in five years and the attendances to the Riazor have been increased by a 30%.

The LFP has noticed this “reborn of the Deportivismo” and yesterday named Deportivo’s supporters as the best group of fans during the season 2011/12; it’s the reward named “player number 12”. A trophy created by La Liga in order to recognize the loyalty from the peñas.

The trophy consists in a shirt with the number 12, a symbol of the importance of the fans in the performance of a team. The shirt will be presented on Sunday, just before the home match before Elche CF. The LFP will also present gifts to the fans, which are sponsored by the bank BBVA and that will be received by the federation of the peñas.

It’s the fourth time that the reward is giving; it was created for the season 2007/08 and was already earned by Real Sociedad, RCD Espanyol, Sporting de Gijón and UD Levante; so this is the first time that the award is given to a Segunda club.
