THE CASE WITH COLOTTO

25 Apr 2012
The Riazor was asking for the renewal of Colotto throughout the last match against Elche, one day later the defender was saying that he’s had offer from other clubs, but that right now he’s pending in a proposition coming from Depor.

Diego Colotto is a fixed piece in the puzzle of Oltra at defense, and is also one of the most loved players by the fans. He ends his contract in June and everybody wants him to stay ahead of the next seasons. On Sunday the Riazor was asking for his renewal throughout the match against Elche CF, then the Argentine scored the winning goal at the last minute and all hell was breaking loose.

The stadium surrendered to the defender and the phrase “Colotto quedate! [Colotto stay]” was chanted by the fans. On the past week the agent of Colotto, Pacual Lezcano, was in La Coruña and was commented that he was negotiating the renewal of the centre back.

But, after the game, president Augusto César Lendoiro talked to reporters and explained that at this point the negotiations remain in a dead point, “The reality is that Deportivo is interested since a while in his renewal, but there are two parties and they need to reach an agreement. We´ll try it as he’s a great player and an important man at the changing room. We’ll try everything we can, but unfortunately we have the same limitations of football in general. We had a ‘light’ meeting with his agent on this week and will keep talking in the next month.”

Then, on Monday, Colotto attended to the press room in Abegondo and explained his situation, “My agent is carrying out with the negotiations. We could have signed for other clubs since January, but gave our word to Deportivo that we were going to wait until this point on the season in order to meet their position, and that’s the subject we are working on at this point.”

“Right now my agent is in other meeting, looking for other possibilities, because, in a sporting sense, you always want to choose the best according to your possibilities. Anyway he still has to return and talk again with the club.  My agent doesn’t give me details. It’s the best for me, so the whole team is focused only in the sporting subject. If not, I wouldn’t be yielding what I can offer. I feel fine, and I don’t know if the next will be my last contract.” He added.

Finally, Colotto was thanking the support of the Riazor as the fans were chanting his name throughout the game with Elche, “I want to thank them for their love; these are things that any player appreciate. What I want now is to clinch the promotion.  Since my arrival to Europe we have been fighting to clinch the permanence, and now we are fighting for a title, it means an obligation, a plus, a different taste, and we are enjoying as we are the team on the spotlight.”
