David Rochela will play his second match as a starter after spending the entire season as the field player with lesser minutes, while Ze Castro is having a second chance at Deportivo after been a substitute in past seasons.

The casualties at Depor’s first team are forcing Oltra to present an unseen combination during this season at the centre of the defense, at least in a liga meeting. Diego Colotto is suspended and Aythami Artiles is injured, so Depor’s coach will rely in the two centre backs remaining at the team: David Rochela and Ze Castro. Both men are having a particular season, a redemption campaign; the first player still looking for it, while the second is touching it with both hands.

Before the past match at UD Almeria, Rochela was the field player with lesser minutes on the liga season: only fourteen in the victory against CD Guadalajara (4-0). Then, the former Fabril was a starter at Estadio de Los Juegos Mediterráneos due to the casualties hitting the squad, and now he’ll have a new chance to prove his skills; this despite some fans criticized his work during the poor presentation of the whole Depor’s team during the defeat against Almeria.

More sweet has been the season for Ze Castro, the Portuguese lived in shadows within the last two years as Colotto and Albert Lopo were the preferred options of former coach Lotina. Then, at the beginning of this campaign, new man on board Oltra chose to play with Colotto and Aythami, only to switch to Ze Castro at the end of the first round, just when the team started its winning streak, which allowed him to stay at the starting eleven.

The ex-Atletico defender only played ten games on the season 2009/10, and six more one year ago, now he already has twenty-two appearances (1,768 minutes), and if he plays all the remaining games on this liga tournament, then he will tie the mark of his first season at Deportivo (2008/09, 29 matches, 2,535 minutes).

This is the combination that will face Real Valladolid on Sunday, perhaps the most in-form team at Liga Adelante and one of the main rivals for the direct promotion spots. And some fans have doubts in how this combination will work against the dangerous attackers of Valladolid.

Some people think that they have never played together, but it isn’t true, though the point is that they have only coincided a few times on the pitch. More precisely Ze Castro and Rochela have been the two centre backs at Depor in two opportunities. The last time was early on this season, on the Copa clash against CD Alcoyano (2-1 win, Oct 12, 2011).

And the previous opportunity was two years ago, Depor was playing for nothing at the end of the season 2009/10 and Lotina was giving opportunities to several players; the team was visiting Valencia CF (0-1 loss) and Ze Castro was playing alongside Piscu, who was replaced at halftime by Rochela due to an injury sustained in the stoppage time. In resume, Ze Castro and Rochela have coincided 135 minutes as centre backs.

There was another opportunity in which both players coincided on the pitch, it was during the visit to Real Sociedad playing for la liga (0-3 loss, Oct 25, 2010), but in this game Rochela was a pivote performing alongside Juca, while Ze Castro was the partner of Colotto at the centre of the defense.

Rochela is surely aware that he will be a starter in this game just due to the casualties at defense, but he wants to silence the critics, and beyond that to prove that he can have a spot ahead of next season, while Ze Castro wants to reaffirm his position as one of the starters at Oltra’s team.
