ONE MORE YEAR FOR VALERÓN

31 May 2012
Valerón will continue for one more season at Deportivo; the playmaker confirmed it in a press conference held at Abegondo on Wednesday. It will be the season number 13 of El Flaco at the Galician club. He will lead the return to Primera.

It was a secret that everybody knew, actually on the night before Juan Carlos Valerón told at Radio Cadena Ser that he’s was going to stay for the coming season, and it was officially confirmed on Wednesday in a short press conference held at Abegondo after the training session of the first team.

During the press conference the playmaker said that, “Simply to tell you that I will continue for one more season, also asking for apologies as I wasn’t able to talk of this subject during the season. We were focused in our main goal, and as you know, I wanted to meet first the opinion of the coach, and we have decided to stay for one more year.”

"I think it's the best decision for me and the club, so I´m happy for it. What I want is to do the right things, and the coach wants me to stay as I can still help the team. There's the possibility that next year could be my last year as a player, but also to extend my career two or three seasons, who knows." He added.

Valerón has a special contract with the club; two years ago he signed a five-year deal that includes his incorporation to the club’s staff; he decided to continue for this season as the team was facing the challenge of Segunda División, and now has decided to lead the returning campaign to Liga BBVA.

The true is that this season has been a solid year for El Flaco playing at Deportivo; the Canarian has played 39 games (2,165 minutes) scoring five goals and proving eleven assists. It will be his season number 13th at the club and is only five matches away of completing 300 liga appearances with the Galician outfit.
