Left-back defender Raul Garcia is now out of Deportivo as he chose to sign for UD Almeria; the former Fabril player is the fifth confirmed exit from the squad, three of the players that ended contract in June still pending in continuing.

Raul Garcia is the fifth casualty at Deportivo for the season 2012/13; the left-back defender, as it happened with other ex-Fabril members, is going out by the back door as he didn’t reach an agreement in order to extend his contract. Instead he decided to sign for UD Almeria for one year with the option of extending the deal for two more years.

The 23-year-old player decided to leave as he understands that there’s no room for him at the first team. Currently Ayoze Diaz is the only left-back at the team, but the club is searching for a second player for this position and it didn’t guarantee an opportunity to him. Raul was ending his contract in June and chose to leave as Almeria offers him to play at their B squad, but been the second choice for the first team.

The left-back talked to Radio Galega and explained his decision, ”I appreciate Depor for its effort, but things weren’t clear and now I leave to Almeria as a player of their B squad. I will be their second left-back. We´ll see how this ends, but for now I sign for one year having the option of two additional seasons. After eleven years at Depor I can only say thanks for everything. The coaches, club’s officials… they were all great with me.”

Raul arrived in 2002 to Depor coming from Vitoria; he started at the Infantil squad and passed through both Cadete squads and later both Juvenil teams, then he was loaned out to Montañeros CF for the campaign 2008/09, then he played 57 matches (4,779 minutes) with Deportivo B between the years 2009 and 2011.

He even played 5 times on the Primera season 2009/10 with Lotina. It seemed that he was ready to make the jump, but Lotina sent him back to Fabril for the campaign 2010/11 and on the last year he was loaned out to UD Melilla at Segunda B. Now, the La Coruña-born player is the fifth confirmed casualty for the new season after the exits of Guardado, Colotto, Pablo Álvarez and Claudio Morel.

There are other three players that could follow the steps of the five confirmed exits: striker Lassad Nouioui, centre midfielder Borja Fernandez and attacker Xisco. The first ended contract in June, while the other two were loaned from other clubs.

Lassad is still pending in finding offers from Primera Division, but hasn’t discarded the option of accepting the renewal offer of Deportivo, so it’s an unresolved issue. It’s rumoured that Depor is interested in negotiating a new loan deal for Borja, this despite Oltra already have four centre midfielders at the first team. On this week Lendoiro and the agent of the player, Pascal Lezcano, had a meeting, but nothing has been known of this case.

Finally, the brother and agent of Xisco, Toni Jiménez, told to Deporte Campeón that Deportivo hasn’t shown any interest in the striker, this despite he’s negotiating the cancelation of his contract with Newcastle United. Still, this option can’t be ruled out. The Galician club is maintaining silence in this case, perhaps just waiting for the possibility of signing the player for free in case of been released by the Magpies.
