LENDOIRO TALKS OF SIGNINGS

13 Jul 2012
Lendoiro explained the meaning of the “Banana operation”; in the end it’s a complex movement trying to sign players from different countries at different clubs in the world. He also admitted contacts with left-back Evaldo.

After some weeks without any movements, and with the first team already training at Abegondo, the club is finally moving in the market in order to sign the four or five reinforcements announced by president Augusto César Lendoiro. On Thursday Deportivo secured the arrival of winger/playmaker Pizzi.

The Portuguese winger was presented in the afternoon and Lendoiro took advantage of the act in order to explain several things about the state of the team and the signings. He started explaining the meaning of the so called Banana operation, “It’s a complex operation, the origin of the word is because it’s like a raceme; when we talk of a banana we are talking of a greengrocer. We are pending in closing the full operation, and if we fulfill all the signings then it could end up been historic. I just can tell you that you will have a busy weekend.” Sportpaper Depor Sport also explained the operation defining it as “a negotiation with several clubs at different countries in order to bring players to Deportivo.”

Back to the press conference, Depor’s boss admitted that the club is negotiating the arrival of Evaldo, the left-back that belongs to Sporting CP, “We are working on the issue with Evaldo, but can’t say more until closing the operation. Ernesto Bello is doing a great job.” He also confirmed that Depor also attempted the signing of Danish Simon Poulsen, “There were a couple of players that we lost at the last minute. In the case of Poulsen different intermediaries got involved in the middle of the negotiations.”

Lendoiro during Thursday’s press conference

On Thursday, Radio Galega informed that Depor had already secured the arrival of Peruvian central defender Junior Rodriguez (28, Sporting CP), but in this case Lendoiro wanted to keep silence and denied the operation with a big “No” Later he didn’t want to talk of this case. He also denied any interest in Portuguese strikers Hugo Almeida and Helder Postiga.

About the current squad, the president denied the possibility of seeing Aranzubia leaving, “If we have exits then these operations won’t affect important players at the team; instead it would be players that don’t count for us. Aranzubia’s exit isn’t contemplated unless someone gets mad and presents a huge offer. Neither Dani nor any other important player is leaving.” He also admitted that Deportivo is in negotiations with Segunda club CD Lugo in order to loan some players that aren’t part of Oltra’s plans.

On Thursday it was also commented the possibility of signing the renewal with striker Lassad Nouioui, but Depor’s boss said that the case remains unclear, “It’s difficult to talk with Lassad; it isn’t easy to make contact with him. We don’t have any information just that he remains without a club.”

Asked about the exit of Colotto, the president said that he was out of Depor’s possibilities after the last offer presented to the defender, “Colotto received an offer for 3 years collecting €1.2 million plus the commission of the agent, so he chose to go there as it was the best offer. Colotto left with grief, but with the pocket full of money.”

Finally, Lendoiro is optimistic of Deportivo’s potential ahead of the new season, “In present times we can’t access to the transfer of players, so we search for novel ways to get the players: loans, participations… Without doubt I believe that we are going to have a better team compared to the year of the relegation. It’s a team that will bring hope and that will achieve great things.”
