New signing Pizzi debuted with Deportivo for the friendly clash against Viveiro; he talked to reporters and said that he isn’t the substitute of Guardado, the left winger that left a mark at the club and that signed for Valencia CF.

Luis Miguel Afonso ´Pizzi´ is aware that the fans are going to compare him a lot with Guardado, after all both players perform on the left wing, but for the new signing of Depor this doesn’t represent a pressure for him.

And it’s that the Portuguese winger doesn’t see himself as the substitute of the Mexican, as he stated after Saturday’s training, “I don’t think I´m the substitute for Guardado, because he’s a great player. Truly we both perform in the same position; it’s just that I don’t see myself as his replacement.”

“The fans will surely expect a lot of things from me, and surely are expecting to see me doing the things in the same way than Guardado, but it doesn’t create a pressure on me. I just came in order to help the team and have a tranquil season.” He added

Pizzi explained what the coach has asked him to do on the pitch, “He wants me to perform on the left wing, also to have the ball trying to beat the rival in one-on-one situations. I should help in the defensive tasks, but always having freedom to move up front. The coach is just asking me to develop my playing style and I just hope to be able to help the team.”

He was also commenting his debut with Deportivo in the friendly game against Viveiro, “It was a solid debut for me and for the rest of the team. It’s always important to start winning. My adaptation to the team has been good. I am feeling fine, perhaps a little tired, but the feelings are positive and we must continue on the same way.”

Finally, Pizzi was hailing the quality at Deportivo’s first team, “This is an extraordinary group, we have quality players and I believe it will make a good season in the return to Primera. The Spanish league is pretty competitive, all the teams fight until the end in order to achieve the goals and we are going to face a lot of rivals fighting for the permanence, but I believe our team is solid.”
