THE NEXT TARGET: TWO CENTRE BACKS

28 Jul 2012
Deportivo wants to close the arrival of a central defender as soon as possible, this due the exits and the injuries that are affecting the first team. Two new defenders will be signed; one of them should arrive in the coming days.

After the signing of Abel Aguilar all the efforts are now focused in hiring reinforcements for the centre of the defense. Oltra has big problems for the friendly matches after the exits of Colotto and Rochela plus the injury of Ze Castro. With only Aythami available the Valencian trainer has been improvising with Fabril’s players Marcos Caridad and Uxio, and even moved right-back Diego Seoane to the centre of the defense for the last two games.

The club will surely sign two central defenders in order to have four choices ahead of the regular season, and one of them should come in the next days as Oltra wants to count, as soon as possible, with at least two players for this position in case that Ze Castro won’t be fit to play for the debuting game against Osasuna.

For now two players have been mentioned as possible targets; the main one is Brazilian Sidnei Rechel da Silva (22, SL Benfica). He’s a promising defender that doesn’t have room at his current team; his agent is Jorge Mendes; actually his company Gestifute owes the 50% of his rights. Mendes already had an agreement with Real Zaragoza in order to hire the player in a loan operation lasting one season.

However, Los Maños haven’t shown interest in closing the operation, mainly as they would have to pay a fee to Benfica plus to assume his wages (€700,000). Lendoiro had a meeting with the agency of Mendes on this week and the name of Sidnei was put over the table. Apparently Mendes would offer better conditions to Deportivo in order to sign the player.

The other name that has been linked with Depor in recent days is Sebastián Coates (21, Liverpool FC). The Uruguayan defender has barely played in the Premiership and Liverpool could agree in negotiating a loan spell; however this can’t be the expected signing for the coming days as the player is currently participating with Uruguay in the Summer Olympic Games disputed in London.
