Only two weeks are left before the debut in la liga and Deportivo still leaving doubts with its game; Oltra and the players are aware of it, but are also confident that the team only needs time and more minutes.

Deportivo still lacking pace and match fitness, the defeat before Pacos de Ferreira (0-2) unveiled the same mismatches already witnessed in the previous defeat against Sporting Gijón (1-4). For the moment Oltra is only distributing the minutes among the players, without revealing his plans regarding the possible starting lineup for the first matchday in liga (August 20, Vs. Osasuna).

Many problems have been detected during the friendly matches: instability at the centre of the defense, lack of ideas at midfield, plus other problems dragged from past seasons as lack of security at the sides of the defense and the absence of a solid goal scorer, even the injuries aren’t helping as six players are currently out: Diogo Salomão (groin), Ze Castro (quadriceps), Ayoze Diaz (hamstring), Jesús Vázquez (lumbago), Juan Dominguez (quadriceps), and Laure (shoulder dislocation), this last one will surely miss the clash with Osasuna.

It gives the impression that the new signings -Evaldo, André Santos, Pizzi, Abel Aguilar, Roderick and Nélson Oliveira- aren’t adapted yet, while the “old” players are lacking match fitness. Besides, two more signings are missed –a centre back and a striker- and these could be last-minute incorporations that could arrive at the end of the month. So, Oltra needs patience and time to assembly all the pieces, but must also hurry up some things in order to not waste time and seize the first matchdays in liga.

Today Depor is facing the seventh friendly match on the pre-season visiting CD Ourense (19h30 CET) and Oltra will continue with its policy of rotations, something that may change for the next two games before Sevilla FC and Atletico Madrid; these two meetings will definitely mark the tendency ahead of the liga debut with Osasuna.

After the loss with Pacos de Ferreira coach José Luis Oltra addressed the media and asked for patience, ”I am not content with the final score. In the first half we weren’t fine with the ball though we were solid. In the second part we imposed our game, it seemed that we had more intention and hit the post twice while their keeper made two brilliant saves; we looked like a different team. The true is that the pre-season is there to adjust things and engage the players; we are just building up a team that isn’t closed yet.”

Veteran Juan Carlos Valerón also talked to reporters and he believes that Deportivo needs time in order to meet its game, We must keep working. New people are arriving and didn’t have the time to learn some things. But we are training fine, the new ones are adapting and are assimilating what the team needs , so we must remain calm. It isn’t easy to learn things so quickly. One of the most important things is that the team already has a defined style”

And one of the new signings, Abel Aguilar, also believes that Depor is on the right track, ”There are things that must be improved, we´re just starting and looking for some things. In any case there’s still time, we need to polish some things and progress as we can. For now the idea is to meet the partners and add minutes. We still have to play some games before the debut, the important thing is to remain calm and know that we need to improve. For no we need to add more minutes.”
