Second time on the pre-season in which Deportivo faces a Primera rival and second time in which Oltra’s team ends scoreless. The Blanquiazul outfit is having problems trying to create scoring opportunities.

It seemed that the problems of Deportivo with the goals were ending last season, the team broke its mark of goals in one single liga tournament (76) and the record put the team as the second best scorer at Segunda, just behind RC Celta. But now the situation is returning to “normal mode” as Oltra’s team is having big problems not only to score the goals, but also to create scoring opportunities.

The Blanquiazul team has scored ten goals after eight matches on the pre-season, it isn’t a bad mark, the point is that those ten goals were scored against lower-league rivals, actually the half of those goals were scored against little Viveiro CF. Depor faced two teams that belong to a Primera league (FC Paços de Ferreira and Sevilla CF) and precisely those were the matches in which the team ended scoreless.

Beyond that, Deportivo left a pale impression as it barely created scoring opportunities. Both games had the same score (0-2) and a similar storyline, because in both first parts the Galician side was unable to complete a shot on target, the situation improved in the second parts and Oltra’s men were able to create some scoring opportunities, even hitting the woodwork in one occasion during both matches, but in the end the team was unable to find the net.

New signing Nélson Oliveira showed some positive things, but the major part of the time he was alone and unassisted, while Riki refreshed the game against Sevilla after entering in the second half, but was unable to complete shot on target. Meanwhile the wingers barely appeared and neither veteran Valerón nor youngster Juan Carlos were the guide needed by the team.

The fans may think that this is only the pre-season and that the only goal for Oltra should be to test the formations and the players, but it must be reminded that if Deportivo suffered the relegation to Segunda two seasons ago it was for the lack of goals. Lotina’s Deportivo only scored 31 goals on the liga season 2010/11, the worst mark at the club in almost four decades. Oltra must polish this old problem in order to avoid further complications.
