This Sunday Deportivo B returns to the league competition and it does it in the mini-derby against Celta B. The goal for Fabril, now coached by José Luis Devesa, is to enter into the promotion zone at Tercera. There are some new faces at the team.

The season at Tercera División begins this weekend, as it happened on last year the Galician group has several strong teams that are aspiring to the first four positions, the same ones that give a ticket to participate in the promotion playoff to Segunda División B. Last year Depor B failed in the attempt to play the playoffs and now it will try to complete the mission.

Fabril is one of the aspirants to the playoffs, but there are other seven teams that will surely give a hard battle: RC Vilalbés, Pontevedra CF, RC Celta B, SD Compostela, Racing Club Ferrol, Alondras CF and CCD Cerceda. So, as it happened in the last tournament, things will probably be decided until the last matchdays. And Depor B begins the league with the mini-derby against Celta B, match that will be disputed on Sunday at Abegondo (18h00 CET).

The main novelty for Fabril ahead of the new season is the exit of Tito Ramallo, who left the team after eleven years. He remains  attached to the work with the youth teams and his replacement as the new coach of the B team is José Luis Devesa, another coach with a long experience at the club (11 years working in different teams, mainly at Juvenil A).

The first thing made by the club was to define the exits: keeper Edu, centre backs Diego Vieytes and Oriol Ricarte, centre midfielders Pedro Crespo and David Garcia and striker Cubillas. There’s a seventh exit: playmaker Juan Carlos, who was promoted to the first team of Deportivo.

Devesa has a different style to Ramallo, starting with the fact that he prefers to trust in the players that he knows instead of signings players from other regions or even other countries as it happened in past years. In this sense the club has made six signings for the B team, but only two of them are coming from clubs outside of Galicia.

These two signings are keeper Ricky Alonso (20) and right-back defender Iván Garrido (22). Both are coming from Real Madrid C. The other four arrivals are well known by Devesa, starting with centre back Marcos Caridad (22), who already was part of the Juvenil A squad under the command of Devesa; he’s arriving from CCD Cerceda.

Other two youngsters are coming from Montañeros CF: playmaker Manuel Romay (22) and left winger Jorge Cano (22), this last player is also returning to the club after a stage at the Juvenil A squad (season 2008/09). Oumar Sidibé (22) was born in Burkina Faso, but isn’t an unfamiliar face to Devesa as he performed at Pontevedra CF for the past campaign.

The club will probably complete a seventh signing, actually he has been training with the team since some weeks ago: Portuguese centre midfielder Paulo Sérgio Rodrigues Teles (19), he’s coming from SL Benfica, but despite been training with the B team his signing isn’t official yet.

Fabril during the pre-season

Five of the six signings made so far are 22, and that’s another difference between Devesa and Ramallo, because Ramallo was usually promoting several players from Juvenil A, keeping a low average age at the squad, while Devesa emphasizes the experience and is only promoting one player on a permanent basis: centre midfielder Álvaro Queijeiro (19).  Last season he was alternating between Fabril and Juvenil A and ended playing six matches at Tercera.

Other three Juvenil A members are trying to convince in order to stay: keeper Rodrigo Iglesias, centre back Róber Suárez and striker Dani Iglesias. Of this list only 17-year-old Iglesias has a clear chance to stay at Fabril; he was one of the top-scorer on the pre-season and for now he’s part of the group due to the injuries hitting the B team.

Right-back Tomás Pérez and centre back Sergio Cardelle were making the pre-season with the team, but they were loaned out to Bergantiños CF. Fabril also has two loaned players at other clubs: centre back Stefan Deak (19, Hapoel Rishon LeZion) and keeper Felipe Ramos (24, Valencia B).

Deportivo B played nine games during the pre-season only losing once: 1-2 Vs. Betanzos. As part of the pre-season Devesa’s squad reached the final of Copa Diputación ending 1-1 against SD Compostela and losing it in the penalty shootout (4-5). During the friendly matches Devesa used a 4-2-3-1 formation, Dani Iglesias and Álvaro Lemos were the two top-scorer during the stage as both strikers netted four goals.

For the opening game against Celta B there are three casualties due to injury reasons; right-back Adriá Gallego and striker Luis Fernandez are recovering from a knee injury, while left winger Víctor Fernandez sustained an ankle injury during this week that will keep him at bay for a full month. Centre back Pablo Ínsua is playing with U-20 Spain in the COTIF tournament, but he should arrive on time for Sunday’s game.

According to what has been sawn during the pre-season Devesa is ready to play with a 4-2-3-1 formation; the starting eleven at the beginning of the tournament will probably be: Marc Martinez – Ivan Garrido, Ínsua, Uxio, Angel - Sidebe, Adrian - Vela, Romay, Cano - Dani Iglesias/Lemos.

For now Fabril composed by 22 players plus three youngsters from Juvenil A:

Defenders: José Manuel, Adriá Gallego, Iván Garrido, Uxio Marcos, Pablo Ínsua, Marcos Caridad, Ángel Martínez and Róber (*)
