TIAGO PINTO PRESENTED

04 Sep 2012
The last signing of the transfer window was presented on Monday at the Riazor. Left-back defender Tiago Pinto arrives loaned from Rio Ave and there’s no buyout option over the player. The Portuguese believes that he’s fit to play.

Tiago Pinto is the ninth and last signing of the summer window 2012/13; the left-back is the sixth side defender that joins Oltra’s team and arrives loaned from Rio Ave. Despite the speculation coming from Portugal in the end there’s no buyout option over him, something that was confirmed by president Lendoiro. Due to the overbooking at the team, Tiago was inscribed as a B team member, but he will be training and playing with the first squad.

The act took place at the Riazor on Monday’s afternoon; there were around 500 fans at the stands and after presenting the player on the pitch he and Lendoiro went to the press room in order to address the media. The president admitted that he tried to sign his father, João Pinto, in the past, “We tried to sign his father before and we do hope that this generation is even better. We are welcoming him and believe that this is a great addition to the team.”

“We are convinced that he will bring days, nights and mornings of happiness to the fans, because on these days you end playing at any hour. Let’s hope he will succeed on here, so the fans can enjoy what they weren’t able to enjoy with his father.” He added.

Later Tiago talked to reporters [mixing Spanish and Portuguese words] and expressed his satisfaction for moving to Depor, “This is a step forward in my career as I am arriving to an important club. This club is important for Portugal and is a loved club by all the Portuguese people. I will like to stay here for a long time. The fans on here are incredible; I saw them in the match against Getafe. This is a great club” He also described himself, “I like to attack, but I am a defender and that’s my job. I am a fast player and my prime function is to defend”

The side defender denied any comparison with his father, who was a former playmaker, “My father was an attacker and I am a defender, so we have nothing in common. He also confessed to be ready to play. “I arrive in order to work hard and want to help the club. I am ready to play as I was training at my previous club; I am available if the coach needs me.”
