RIKI WANTS MORE GOALS

09 Sep 2012
Seventh season for Riki at the club; the Madrilenian targets a double digit mark in his return to Primera and also the permanence for Depor. The ex-Getafe attacker is also content with the philosophy of coach José Luis Oltra.

Striker Riki is having a great start after scoring two goals within the first three liga matchdays; he has already scored 39 goals in 170 league games with Deportivo and is already inside the top-twenty list of best scorers at the club. He now wants more and targets to break the barrier of the ten goals at Primera, something he never achieved before, neither at Getafe nor at Depor.

During the week the Aranjuez-born attacker talked with reporters and said that he’s feeling great and seeing the current season with optimism, “Each year I work the same, but clearly I feel better now been 32 than when I was 26. Let’s hope that the work done throughout the years will be rewarded, because my hope is the same one.”

For him the target on the season is to score a double digit mark of goals, just like he did on last season, “What I want is to play and dispute a lot of minutes, the rest will come by its own. I am not obsessed with numbers, but clearly I would love to surpass the barrier of the ten goals.”

The club has been trying to hire a new striker, a free agent, but Riki welcomes the competence, “I have been here for seven years and they have been always searching for strikers. If the club understands that it needs a new striker then it is for something. The one coming will surely add things.”

The Madrilenian attacker also confessed that he feels identified with the philosophy of Oltra, “Each master has his own book, his philosophy of playing. The previous coaches were practicing another type of football, and with this one, perhaps, we are emphasizing the ball possession, the arrivals, and to finalize the plays and it’s something to thank. I feel more identified with this coach than with the previous ones, but neither have I wanted to be opportunistic once the previous coaches aren’t here.”

He ends his contract in 2013 and would love to continue his career at Depor, “A lot still ahead; in the world of football you never know what’s going to happen, but people already know what I think. For now we must focus on Deportivo; we are having a good streak and must try to extend it day after day.”

For the striker, as for other players at the team, Deportivo is targeting the permanence at Primera, “We are living a break in la liga and must return with the batteries recharged, and by this day the feelings are pretty good. In any case the style of playing might be the same, but the rivals are different. There are better teams and others that have the same level than us. At Segunda we were the team to beat and at Primera we are aspiring to the permanence.”

Finally, Riki analyzed what to expect from the coming visit to Granada CF, “They are needing the points after just adding one of the possible nine. Without been a vital game for them it is important as they want to add. We are aware that it’s a complicate stadium and that they won’t give anything for free, so if we aren’t going out with a winning mentality then it will surely be harder.”
