Pizzi and Oliveira didn’t play for Portugal as the Lusitanian team won its second game in the World Cup qualifiers, meanwhile Colombia impressed in Chile with Abel Aguilar making a great game, but he was sent off at the final minutes.

Mixed luck for the three Depor’s players on international duty, though their national teams won their games. Once again Pizzi and Nélson Oliveira stayed on the bench for Portugal; Nani is a fixed starter on the left wing and one more time coach Paulo Bento preferred the choice of Real Zaragoza’s Hélder Postiga for the attacking line, so for both men remained out.

The Portuguese side suffered a lot hosting Azerbaijan s it had to wait until the second half in order to secure the three points (3-0 win). Bento’s team had several scoring opportunities in the first part, but all of them were wasted, especially the one on the boots of Postiga, who sent the ball out from close range.

In the end Estrela da Amadora’s Silvestre Varela had to come out from the bench and in a matter of seconds he scored the first goal; later the locals relaxed and Postiga scored the second goal five minutes before the final whistle, while Bruno Alves scored the third at minute 88. Pizzi was warming at the beginning of the second part, but he didn’t enter into the pitch. Both players are now expected in A Coruña for today’s training.

Portugal: (4-3-3) Rui Patricio - Joao Pereira, Pepe, Alves, Coentrao - Meireles, Veloso (Varela 63’), Moutinho – Nani (Ruben Amorim 77’), Postiga (Éder 87’), Ronaldo
Goals: 1-0: (63’) Varela, 2-0 (85’) Postiga, 3-0: (88’) Bruno Alves

Abel Aguilar during the clash against Chile

Colombia played a great game visiting an always tough Chile; both teams searched for the victory and the visitors found themselves with an advantage as they played with one more man since minute 40 after Sevilla’s Gary Medel was sent off.  Abel Aguilar was a starter and had a more discrete performance compared to the past game against Uruguay as he was very busy trying to control midfield territory.

But Chile pushed at the end of the first half and ex-Villarreal Mati Fernandez scored a goal, but the Colombians outplayed the locals in the second part and James Rodriguez scored a marvelous goal in a direct free-kick, and later there were two quick goals that secured the three points, the first scored by Atletico’s Radamel Falcao and the second by Teófilo Gutierrez.

Abel Aguilar made a solid job during the second part as he was holding on at midfield, but was sent off at minute 83 with two yellow cards, the second for handling the ball. For this reason Depor’s midfielder is suspended for the home clash against Paraguay (October 12). He should join Depor on Friday ahead of the visit to Granada CF.

Colombia: (4-4-2) Ospina - Zúñiga, Perea, Yepes (Cuadrado 46’), Armero - Valencia, Abel Aguilar, Torres (Ramirez 73’), James (Carlos Sánchez 80’) - Teófilo, Falcao
Goals: 1-0: (43’) Mati  Fernandez, 1-1: (58’) James Rodriguez, 1-2: (77’) Falcao, 1-3: (79’) Gutierrez
