The eight Portuguese players at Deportivo have had a slow start in la liga; only Pizzi and Gama are regular starters, while Tiago Pinto and Roderick still have to debut. Ze Castro is already available and targets to enter into the starting lineup.

Luis Miguel Afonso ´Pizzi´ and Bruno Gama are the most regular Portuguese players in this beginning of season for Deportivo. The arrival of the eight Lusitanian players to the club awoke all kind of comments and expectations, but within the first three games only two of them have been undisputed starters.

Pizzi was loaned from Atletico Madrid and has been a starter in the first three games, plus scoring one goal and providing one assist. Bruno Gama was also a starter in the first three clashes and was an important piece in the promotion campaign from Segunda División.

Regarding the other six Portuguese men at Depor, only two of them have played in la liga 2012/13. Striker Nélson Oliveira has played the first three matches, though always as a substitute. He scored a goal in the debuting match against CA Osasuna. Centre midfielder André Santos, meanwhile, debuted in the past match with Getafe CF entering for the final eight minutes.

The remaining four Portuguese players at the squad are still waiting for their first minutes in la liga; centre back Ze Castro and left winger Diogo Salomão are just coming out from their injuries and hope to gain a spot at Oltra’s starting team. Ze Castro has more options to do it as he was a regular starter at the end of the past liga tournament.

Left-back Tiago Pinto just landed at A Coruña on the past week and hopes to dispute the starting spot against Evaldo. Finally, Roderick Miranda has been on the bench during the three matches played at Liga BBVA and still waiting for an opportunity.

In any case it’s normal to witness this situation, after all four of these players are new signings and need time to adapt. Besides, Oltra is a coach open to make changes throughout the season, just the remember the case of Ze Castro, who was a substitute at the beginning of the past Segunda season and later earned a spot at the starting team (matchday 15).
