SOLID START FOR RIKI

04 Oct 2012
Riki has scored three goals in the first six games in liga; it’s his best mark since his last year at Getafe CF. He now targets to clinch a victory in the next match visiting Rayo Vallecano, plus ending the season with at least ten goals in favour.

Only a few good news from the big defeat against Real Madrid; the main one is that Iván Sánchez-Rico Soto ´Riki’ is still living a solid start of season. He scored the lonely goal for Depor pushing his tally to three goals after six games in la liga.

This is his best start at Deportivo and the second one on his career as on the season 2005/06 he scored four goals for Getafe within the first six Primera matches. On that campaign the Madrilenian striker ended with eight goals in the competition, his highest mark in the league, same one repeated on the season 2009/10 at Depor.

Riki already stated that his target for the season is to score ten or more goals at Primera; he netted fourteen on the past Segunda season. In order to reach the target the Aranjuez-born attacker must stay healthy and avoid the muscle injuries. So far he has suffered a nose fracture and a small problem on Sunday, reason why he was replaced in the second half against Real Madrid, but in any case he has been the fixed starter at Oltra’s lineup.

In the meantime, Riki has already scored 40 goals at Primera wearing the shirt of Depor, already overcoming legends such as Djalminha (38), Tino (39) and Donato (39); for now the Madrilenian marksman is the seventh best scorer at Primera with Deportivo, just behind Bebeto (86), Makaay (79), Diego Tristán (78), Pahińo (46), Fran (44) and Franco (42).

On Monday the striker was commenting his feelings after scoring a goal at the Bernabéu, ”It was a different game to the ones I have been playing on here. I didn’t participate too much in the game, but scored a goal in the lonely chance I had, while in other days I have had three opportunities and remained scoreless.”.

Now, Riki targets to see Deportivo returning into the path of victory, ”Our intention is to go out and win, but especially to compete at the top. Vallecas is complicated, they have suffered two tough defeats, but we can beat anyone. We have spent five matchdays without winning and the team must return into the path of the victory as soon as possible.”
