VALERON’S NEW TARGET: 400 OFFICIAL GAMES

15 Oct 2012
After playing his liga match number 300 with Deportivo La Coruña, Valerón is now targeting the mark of 400 official meetings at the club. He just needs nine more presentations wearing the Blanquiazul shirt. Only three men have done it so far.

This could be the last year of Juan Carlos Valerón as a professional player, but El Flaco is having an important presence at Oltra’s lineups and he’s also reaching some historic marks that will surely leave his name among the legends that have played for the club. Against Rayo Vallecano the Canarian playmaker reached the mark of 300 liga matches wearing the Blanquiazul shirt, just been the fifth men that accomplish the mission.

And now he’s close to join a more select group: players with 400 or more official games with Deportivo. Until this point Valerón has completed 391 official matches at the club: 261 at Primera, 39 at Segunda, 25 at Copa Del Rey, 2 in the Spanish Supercopa, 46 in the UEFA Champions League, 10 in the UEFA Cup and 8 in Intertoto Cup.

Only three men have played 400 or more official games with Depor: Fran (640), Mauro Silva (440) and Manuel Pablo (416). So, El Flaco should be the fourth men on the list as he only needs nine more games, actually he can reach that tally before the end of the year as Depor still have to play ten more liga meetings plus a couple more in Copa Del Rey.

So far the Canarian playmaker has scored 31 goals with Deportivo, but the most impressive stat is the 70 assists that he has provided in his 391 matches at the club. This is the highest mark at Depor in the 2000’s century.
