Chaotic week for Deportivo in terms of injuries; Oltra has lost two players, while other three men have been doubtful. In the end the Valencian coach will have to make changes. Celta is having lesser problems ahead of the Galician derby.

Deportivo visit RC Celta on Saturday (Balaídos, 20h00 CET), and the injuries are striking Oltra’s team at the worst moment, not only ahead of the Galician derby, but also because next week is complicated as the Copa del Rey arrives, which means three matches per week and the need to have a deep squad in order to face both competitions.

And it’s that Oltra lost two players in a matter of three days; first it was left winger Diogo Salomão, who played a few minutes against FC Barcelona and later showed up with  a Soleus muscle injury on his right thigh; problem that’s sidelining him for a couple of weeks. He already missed several weeks in this start of season due to groin injury.

Then it was centre midfielder Abel Aguilar, who suffered an Obturator externus muscle injury on his right hip during Tuesday’s training. He’s also out of the derby and doubtful for the upcoming clashes against RCD Mallorca (liga & Copa). The Colombian is an important casualty for Oltra, because he and Marchena are the only men that have played all the minutes with Depor during this season.

There’s more; striker Riki didn’t train on Tuesday after the hit he suffered in the nose during the clash with FC Barcelona; it must be remembered that he broke his nose in the previous game with Granada CF, but the Madrilenian man joined the trainings on Wednesday.

Right winger/playmaker Javier Camuñas was also doubtful due to an adductor muscle injury. The Madrilenian man skipped Tuesday’s training, though one day later he was already working without problems. The last player that joined the long list of physical problems is left winger Pizzi, who didn’t end Wednesday’s training due to a groin issue, but it isn’t a serious case and it’s expected that he could be fit for Saturday’s clash.

Right-back Manuel Pablo, meanwhile, joined the trainings on Wednesday after been off for a month due to a hamstring strain injury. In any case the Canarian doesn’t have the medical okay and will surely miss the derby.

In resume Depor will have three casualties for the match against RC Celta: Manuel Pablo, Abel Aguilar and Diogo Salomão. The case of Pizzi is favourable, though the doctors will wait to see the evolution of the player during Thursday and Friday. It means that Oltra will have to make at least one change to his normal formation ahead of the derby, also that he will have lesser choices in order to face the double meeting with RCD Mallorca.

At RC Celta, things are much more calmed down than at Depor, though always with some problems. Coach Paco Herrera is only having the casualty of midfielder Natxo Insa; he’s dragging a knee sprain and will be out for the next three weeks. Then there are six players with issues, though they should be available for Saturday.

Centre midfielder Álex López was dragging a knee injury and just completed part of the first trainings on the week, but he was already fine on Wednesday and is available for the derby. South Korean attacker Park Chu-Young sustained an adductor injury and just completed part of Tuesday’s session, but he’s already fine.

Then midfielder Borja Oubiña (tiredness) and keeper Javi Varas (gastric problem) weren’t training with the same intensity than the rest, but they should be available too. Varas missed the last game against Real Madrid, and it’s expected that he will be the starter against Depor claiming the spot of Sergio Álvarez.

The last two players having issues were right-back Hugo Mallo and attacker Augusto Fernández; both men just completed part of Wednesday’s training due to muscle problems. The club expects that both players could be available for the derby. On Thursday the team trains behind closed doors at Balaídos preparing the tactic for the clash.
