INITIAL DESPAIR: 14 GOALS IN THE FIRST HALF

30 Oct 2012
Deportivo is the second worst defense at Primera with 20 goals allowed, 14 of those goals were scored in the first half, and 9 of them came within the first half an hour. Oltraís team is having big problems at the beginning of the matches.

Oltraís Depor is no longer the worst defense at Primera Divisiůn after Rayo Vallecano allowed five goals to FC Barcelona on this matchday; the Madrilenians have now leaked 22 goals against the 20 of the Galicians, but the bleeding at defense continues to be a serious problem and the main reason why the Blanquiazul outfit remains in relegation.

Not even in the season of the relegation [2010/11] Depor had allowed so many goals after the first 9 matchdays; at that time the team had only leaked 14. Itís necessary to go back 55 years in order to find a worse mark: on the campaign 1955/56 Depor allowed 24 goals within the first 9 Primera matchdays.

One of the concerns is the way in which Deportivo begin the matches, because 14 of the 20 goals (70% of the total, the highest percentage within the last decade) have been allowed in the first half, and nine of those goals were leaked before the 30-minute mark. Actually, in the last four matches in liga ĖReal Madrid, Rayo Vallecano, FC Barcelona and RC Celta- the Blanquiazul team has allowed six goals before that mark.

Only in the opening matchday before CA Osasuna (2-0) and the games against Granada CF (1-1) and Sevilla CF (0-2) Deportivo didnít allow any goal during the first half. Itís a clear indication that the team is lacking concentration at the beginning of the meetings. Everybody knows thatís difficult to win any game at Primera, and the situation is worse when the team begins losing allowing an early goal.
