Deportivo travel to Majorca in order to play on Thursday the second-leg in Copa Del Rey; four days later the Galician team returns home and will face Real Betis playing for la liga. Oltra is having problems at defense and at the wings.

Busy week for Deportivo; Oltra’s team is playing three games in one week with the next two clashes being disputed in a matter of three days. On Thursday the Galician outfit travels to the Balearic Islands in order to face RCD Mallorca as part of the second-leg of the last-32 round in Copa Del Rey (Iberostar stadium, 21h30 CET). Then, on Sunday, the team returns to the Riazor in order to face Real Betis, this time playing for la liga (17h00 CET).

The busy calendar, plus the opportunity to give chances to the less habitual players during this season, will move Oltra to allow the rotations at his starting formation, though in this opportunity he will face problems in two specific positions.

There are five players out injured and the main problems for Depor’s coach are located at the centre of the defense and the wings, and it’s that there are only two players available for the first position and three for the second. Neither Marchena (hamstring) nor Ze Castro (Soleus) are recovered, therefore Oltra only has Roderick and Aythami.

It’s expected that the coach is going to recall Pablo Insua from Fabril, either to play in Copa and to be on the bench for the liga meeting with Real Betis. It’s even possible to see the Valencian trainer picking Uxío Marcos, the other starting centre-back at Deportivo B, at least for the Copa clash with RCD Mallorca.

Similar is the situation at the wings; Diogo Salomão (Soleus) is closer to return, but in any case he won’t be ready for this double meeting, and on Monday right winger Saul Fernández sustained a thigh injury and will also miss both matches; therefore the only three available wingers are Bruno Gama, Pizzi and Javier Camuñas.

Camuñas will surely be a starter in Copa; the main question is who will play in the opposite wing. Oltra has the options of calling Álvaro Lemos and Jorge Cano from Fabril, duo that has been doing fine at Tercera División, but it’s unlikely that the coach will give options to any of them and instead it’s more probable that he will replace someone at the first team, like left-back Tiago Pinto, who could end performing as a winger with Evaldo reappearing at the left side of the defense.

The other player that will miss both matches is striker Nélson Oliveira; he’s already training on the pitch, though he hasn’t joined yet the work alongside his team mates; therefore the Portuguese man is expected to return late in December. In this way Bodipo should be the starter in Copa and Riki in liga.

RCD Mallorca is the first rival on the week; Joaquin Caparrós is under fire as his team has only clinched one of the last twenty-four points in dispute; beyond the results there is a huge criticism towards the tactics of the ex-Depor trainer; there are many questions related to Mexican Gio dos Santos, who’s playing as a starter without fulfilling the expectations and also criticism for the fact that striker Victor Casadesús is playing on the wing.

At least the coach is recovering centre-back José Carlos Araújo ‘Nunes’ (knee), centre midfielder Javi Márquez (ankle fracture), and striker Álvaro Giménez (groin). Meaning that only centre midfielder João Victor (knee ligaments), and left-back Antonio López (meniscus) remain on the sidelines. It’s expected that Caparrós is going to give minutes to the trio, though they won’t play the entire game. Besides, he will probably bench the other normal starters as on Sunday they’ve an important home clash against Real Zaragoza.

The opposite scenario is lived by Real Betis; the team coached by Pepe Mel is living a solid season in la liga; despite the huge setback in the Andalusian derby they just defeated Real Madrid (1-0) and are living inside the European zone. But there was a price to pay as they have three casualties for Sunday while other four players are in doubt.

The main problems are located at defense as three of the centre-backs, Paulo Afonso ´Paulao’, Damien Perquis (both thigh) and Mario Álvarez (Soleus), are all out for the next two weeks, while right-back Ángel is doubtful with a hamstring injury. Other three players picked knocks against Real Madrid and are doubtful for Sunday: left-back Álex Martinez, centre midfielder Salva Sevilla and left winger Juan Carlos.

For Tuesday’s Copa meeting against Real Valladolid, Pepe Mel ended using four normal starters: ex-Depor striker Rubén Castro, forward Salvador Agra plus centre-backs Antonio Amaya and José Dorado. Centre midfielder Beñat Etxebarria entered in the second part. The Andalusian side passed the round with a 3-1 aggregate score and with Rubén scoring once.
