Deportivo B is ending the first round at Tercera in promotions seats, that’s the goal of new coach Devesa: to dispute the playoffs. Luis is the top-scorer at the team, Lemos the best assistor and Ángel the player with more minutes.

Solid first round of Fabril competing in the Galician group of Tercera División. New coach José Luis Devesa arrived with the mission of putting the team at the promotion seats and currently he’s fulfilling the mission. It looks improbable that he could reach the first position, because Racing de Ferrol is making an outstanding season with 16 wins out of 19 matches.

The rest of positions are still ‘negotiable’, with Celta B and SD Compostela having 37 points, and with Depor B lying at the fourth spot with 34. UD Somozas (31), Club Rápido de Bouzas (30) and CD As Pontes (30) are the other clubs in the promotion race. Last season’s wonders CCD Cerceda (27) and Racing Vilalbés (23) are having an unstable season and are out of the competition, at least for now.

It’s very important to end as the group winners, because it allows the scenario of only playing two games in the playoffs in order to conquer the promotion, while ending second, third or fourth it means to dispute six matches to clinch the gold.

Contrary to what happened last season with Tito Ramallo, the team of Devesa is more balanced in all the lines. The mark of goals allowed (16) is the fourth best mark in the league, while the number of goals scored (31) is also the fourth highest at the group.

Still, the team had a doubtful start of season, with four defeats within the first ten games, which included two straight losses against Bergantińos CF (0-1, matchday 03) and Órdenes SD (0-2, matchday 04), setbacks that even left the team closer to relegation than to the promotion zone.

But the tem reacted later and clinched six wins within the last nine matches in the competition. The rally included a huge 3-0 victory visiting direct rival UD Somozas (matchday 11) and a 5-0 win over SD Negreira (matchday 16), which has been the biggest win on this season.

Devesa has used two different schemes on his starting formation: the 4-1-4-1 and the traditional 3-5-2. He began the season with the 3-5-2, a system that was later switched as the results were negative. Still, he returned to it after the team returned to winning ways.

Marc Martinez is the starting goalie, Ángel plays at the left-back position and Iván Garrido is performing on the right as Adriá Gallego is just coming out from an injury. Pablo Insua and Uxío Marcos are the undisputed centre-backs, and each time someone is missing then Róber is promoted from Juvenil A in order to fill the gaps.

At midfield, Oumar Sidibé and Paulo Teles are the pivotes, when the scheme was a 4-1-4-1 then the Burkina Faso-born youngster played alone and the Portuguese was moved to the left wing. The playmaker is Juan Carlos, and with the 4-1-4-1 he was joined by Jorge Romay, this last player has also performed as a left winger and even as a false nine.

Álvaro Lemos is the undisputed starter at the right wing, Jorge Cano has more games on the left flank, though in the last games Devesa has preferred to relocate Romay on that position and even striker Álex Pérez has performed there.

Perhaps the weakest position for Devesa is the striker’s role, many times he has used a false nine for that spot, and at the beginning he picked Dani Iglesias from Juvenil A, who impressed scoring three goals in five meetings, but after the recovery of Luis Fernández, who turned to be the Pichichi at the team despite only playing nine games, he has earned the job.

Only three players have taken part in all of the 19 matches played in the first round: left-back Ángel Martinez, centre midfielder Oumar Sidibé and winger Álvaro Lemos. Keeper Marc Martinez played in 18 of the games and just missed one clash as he was picked by the first team in order to cover the casualty of Aranzubia. Playmaker Jorge Romay and winger Jorge Cano also took part in 18 of the 19 first round’s matches.

Five players have already accumulated 1,400 or more minutes on the league season: Ángel (1,710), Marc Martinez (1,620), Sidibé (1,610), Romay (1,479) and Iván Garrido (1,451). Ángel is the only player at the team that has disputed all the possible minutes on this season.

The to- scorer at the team is Luis Fernández with six goals added to his tally, a remarkable job taking in mind that he only played nine games as he has just returned from a serious knee injury. Juan Carlos (4), Romay (3), Diego Vela (3), Jorge Cano (3) and Lemos (3) complete the list of top-scorers. It means that 26 of the 31 goals (84% of the total) are distributed among six different players.

Álvaro Lemos is the top assistor with 7 assists, followed by Juan Carlos (4), Romay (3) and Teles (3). Finally, Pablo Ínsua is the most booked players at the team (8), followed by Teles (6) and Iván Garrido (5). Uxio Marcos is the only player that has been sent off on the season.
