ASSUNCAO: “WE CAN IMPROVE”

19 Jan 2013
New singing Paulo Assunção points out to the solidity at defense as the main asset that should pull Deportivo outside of relegation. He also confessed that he wasn’t totally fit for the past match visiting Real Sociedad.

Paulo Assunção debuted on the past Sunday playing for 35 minutes against Real Sociedad; he talked to Carlos Miranda from Depor Sport and commented how he felt at Anoeta, “I thought it was going to be harder, but it wasn’t like that. I felt fine, because I already know the Spanish league and, no matter the age, I am an experienced player. I believe Domingos was right in not putting me at the starting formation, because I hadn’t play in the previous three weeks and was on vacations. When I entered into the pitch I tried to do my best.”

“My job is to be in front of the centre back, to train to regain the ball and attempt the recovery of the ball, but I’m content here at Deportivo, because I was welcomed by my new team mates and for me this team is pretty good. There are some fast players up front and other ones with experience at the back that can make solid marks; I believe we can improve.” He added.

About Sunday’s game in Pamplona, the Brazilian said that, “On Sunday we have a new final against Osasuna and must be prepared to add the three points, because it’s going to be complicated in Pamplona. Osasuna is also in bad shape and they need the victory. It will be hard as in the coming week Valencia visit the Riazor and neither will be easy for their level. We need to work hard in order to achieve it.”

Finally he was explaining the right path in order to clinch the permanence, “The way is to be strong at the back and not allow too many goals. If we do that, then surely we will score the goals, either through the velocity of our attackers or in set-pieces. We have only allowed one goal within the last two matches and definitely this will help us until the end of the season.”
