Riki passed the 50-goal-mark with his brace against Valencia CF. He also matched his best goal performance in a Primera season and is the only player at the team that has scored a goal in la liga within the last seven years.

One of the few good news of the latest defeat against Valencia CF was to see Iván Sánchez-Rico Soto ‘Riki’ passing the mark of 50 goals playing for Deportivo. It’s the second brace of the Madrilenian attacker on this campaign –the first one was in the 2-3 loss against Real Betis-

With the brace the striker has reached the mark of 51 official goals playing for Deportivo (33 at Primera, 12 at Segunda, 4 in Copa Del Rey and 2 in the UEFA Cup). He could enter during this season into the top-ten list of Depor’s scorers at Primera División.

Riki scored eight goals on this league season, four of them playing against CA Osasuna, Getafe CF, Real Madrid and Real Zaragoza, plus the braces against Real Betis and Valencia CF. He matched his best scoring record in one single campaign: 2009/10 at Depor & 2005/06 at Getafe.

Another interesting stat is that Riki has scored goals at Primera División in each one of the last eight years (2006-2013). He’s just below the mark of former captain Fran, who scored at least one goal at Primera during fourteen straight years (1991-2004).

Despite Deportivo’s relegation problems, it is a solid season for the Aranjuez-born striker, and it’s that he has been a starter in the 21 matchdays played so far, only Bruno Gama has matched this mark. He still dragging muscle problems, the same problem that has chased him in recent years, but the point is that he’s surpassing the problems, including a knee sprain that almost sidelined him for the latest clash at the Riazor.
