DEPORTIVO IN FEBRUARY

30 Jan 2013
Two Madrilenians and two Andalusians clubs are the rivals of Depor during February. There’s a direct meeting against Granada CD and then 3 games against European aspirants, including the visit of Real Madrid to the Riazor.

New month and Deportivo still battling to leave the relegation places; in February the Galicians are playing four games, three of them against clubs that are targeting the European seats and there’s room to face a direct rival in the fight to avoid the drop zone.

The first meeting in the month is the visit to Getafe CF. The Madrilenians were dreaming of Europe, but have been unable to clinch a victory within the last six liga meetings only collecting three points in the period. Now they’re in nowhere’s land: eight points below the European seats and the same distance with relegation.

A crucial meeting in the battle to avoid relegation is the visit of Granada CF to the Riazor. The Andalusians have had mixed results within the last two months, but the point is that they remain outside of the drop zone; actually they’re currently marking the salvation frontier and a victory in this match will have a double value as it will also mean to win the tie-breaker against them after the 1-1 draw of the first round.

Then, it will be time to pay a visit to the Sánchez Pizjuán in order to face Sevilla. The Andalusians are having an irregular season; they started strongly clinched three wins within the first five games, but as it happened last season the rest of the campaign has been instable. It’s the same case of Getafe as they’re exactly at the same distance of Europe than of Segunda División.

At least the Sevillans are already qualified to the semifinals in Copa Del Rey, round in which they will meet Atlético Madrid. An interesting fact is that the first-leg is played on Thursday and the second-leg will be played at the end of February, just three days before facing Deportivo, so it’s possible to see some rotations for the game against the Galicians.

February ends with one of the most expected games of the season: the visit of Real Madrid to the Riazor. The Madrilenians visit the scenario where they have suffered the most within the last two decades and do it having a disappointing performance in la liga, only being third at the standings, fifteen points below leaders FC Barcelona.

At least Los Blancos still alive in both the UEFA Champions League and Copa Del Rey; an interesting fact is that Real Madrid will face Barca three times within the next four weeks, and the game against Deportivo will take place in the middle of the returning leg in Copa and the league clash at the Bernabéu, so they could be distracted by then and those clashes could mark their mood to face the match at the Riazor.
