THINKING OF GRANADA

07 Feb 2013
Once again Marchena will be doubtful until the last day; there are four confirmed casualties for Saturday. Meanwhile, Granada, will probably arrive to the crucial meeting with only one absentee.

Very important match on Saturday as Granada CF visit the Riazor (Saturday, 22h00 CET), it’s a direct meeting that’s considered as one of the first finals for Deportivo in the fight for the permanence. A victory won’t pull the Galician team out of relegation, but surely will mean a relief after a tense week with the fans.

Coach Domingos Paciência is having four confirmed casualties for the meeting. Right-back Laureano Sanabria ‘Laure’ (groin) and centre-back Aythami Artiles (thigh) are the out for injury reasons.

Meanwhile, the competition committee rejected the appeals of centre midfielder Abel Aguilar and winger Javier Camuñas. The first one was sent off in the previous meeting against Getafe CF, while the second picked his fifth yellow card of the season in that same match.

The big doubt will continue to be centre-back Carlos Marchena; the Andalusian is dragging a grade I muscle strain on his right hip since one month ago. Last week he was close to return, but stayed on the sidelines. This week he started to train on Wednesday and the coach will decide on Friday if he will available or not for the meeting.

At least Domingos is recovering side defender Sílvio Azevedo and centre midfielder Paulo Assunção, duo that was sent off in the defeat against Valencia CF. Sílvio and striker Nélson Oliveira are concentrated with Portugal for a friendly game against Ecuador and will join the team until Friday, same things than Abel Aguilar, who was playing with Colombia against Guatemala.

At Granada, new coach Luca Alcaraz will have a full squad available for the trip to the Riazor. The Andalusians are confident after defeating Real Madrid (1-0) and now that a win in A Coruña could be deadly for Deportivo. The only casualty for the game is playmaker Fran Rico, who’s out for the rest of the season with a knee injury. Centre midfielder Dani Benitez is dragging a muscle problem, but it’s expected that we will be available for the meeting.

The ‘star’ signings of the club during the winter window were striker Manuel Agudo Durán 'Nolito' and playmaker Diego Buonanotte; both already debuted in the past game against Real Madrid leaving a positive impression.
