TESTING THE LINEUP

08 Feb 2013
Paciência tested several lineups for the upcoming clash against Granada; he will probably switch into 4-2-3-1. Marchena has big options of returning, while Diego Salomão could have his big chance. The big doubt is the playmaking function.

The match against Granada CF is crucial and coach Domingos Paciência is forced to make modifications due to the suspension of Abel Aguilar, who was a starter in the past game against Getafe CF and is now suspended. Also, the possible return of Carlos Marchena is pushing Kaká into the bench. On Thursday, Domingos assured that the ex-Valencia man will be fit to play on Saturday.

In his first five games at the club the Portuguese tactician used a 4-3-3 formation, but now he seems eager to switch into a 4-2-3-1 draw. One of the main problems for Domingos is the playmaking function, and it’s that he hasn’t found any player capable of fulfilling the duties as he wants. The coach himself confessed during his press conference that he still searching for a combination that he likes.

In the past clash against Getafe the coach switched the 4-3-3 draw at half-time by allowing the entry of Camuñas, who is now suspended. And on Thursday he was testing a formation with Pizzi moving into the centre in order to play as the playmaker in the scheme. It was one of the draws that were tested in the session, and the most likely to be used on Saturday.

This tested formation also included the presence of Diogo Salomão on the left wing; the Portuguese has only been a starter in one opportunity: the 0-2 loss visiting RCD Espanyol (Dec 20). The rest of the offensive formation included the presence of Bruno Gama at the right wing and Riki at the centre of the attack.

Both Sílvio and Nélson Oliveira were already part of Thursday’s training session after been in international duties, but Domingos didn’t test them in any possible formation. Who was included in the possible lineup is Paulo Assunção; the Brazilian is returning from suspension and was tested alongside Álex Bergantiños at midfield.

At defense, Daniel Aranzubia will probably continue at the goal, Manuel Pablo and Evaldo Fabiano keep their spots at the sides, and Ze Castro was playing alongside Marchena at the central positions.
