Deportivo announced on Monday that the new coach of the first team is Fernando Vázquez. The Galician tactician is the third trainer at the club for the present season. His mission is to save the club from Segunda División.

The surprising departure of Domingos Pacięncia is now covered with the arrival of Fernando Vázquez Pena, an experienced coach in Spain that already coached seven different clubs at the elite of Spanish football. He’s signing a contract lasting until the end of the season, the deal includes the option to extend the contract in case of clinching the permanence.

He was contacted on Sunday’s night after the president and the first team’s captains had a new meeting in order to analyze the behavior of Domingos, who presented his resignation after the 0-3 loss against Granada CF. It isn’t a coincidence that Vázquez was called in order to attend this emergency situation, and it’s that the Galician man was already in the short list to replace Oltra back in December. Vázquez will be joined by Manolo Pombo, who will be his physical trainer. Jose Ángel Franganillo and José Sambade will continue working with the first team.

His arrival was announced on Monday’s afternoon and the presentation took place at the Playa Club. President Augusto César Lendoiro was joined by his advisors and addressed the media, "We are proud to present Fernando Vázquez as the new coach of Deportivo. It's a complicate moment and no one should think that we are giving up. On Sunday's night we decided that Domingos wasn't going to continue; at 5 AM we reached a final agreement. Right now it isn’t official as we are pending of the administrator’s approval. Everyone should realize that it isn’t the same to have a Deportivo at Primera than a team at Segunda.”

"Fernando Vázquez has a morale made of iron. I believe we have a great boss for this ship, and the crew of the ship is better of what the standings say. All the players want to move forward and fix this situation. We needed the hope of a boss capable of fixing this problem. We hope that this is the beginning of a great moment for us. The goal of Deportivo is the union and the representation of Galicia.” Depor’s boss added.

Then it was Fernando Vázquez who answered the questions of reporters, "I feel excited. This is a difficult moment and I land here in order to help Deportivo. I didn't know Deportivo wanted to sign me. I was surprised. To save this team is my dream. It's complicated, but nothing is impossible. We need to win eight more games and I believe this is possible. I was pretty happy when they phoned me. For me it is important. I was pleased after been approached. I am grateful."

"We all together must be able to achieve great results. I am content and happy. This is my opportunity. I believe that I was always good trying to revive a team. I think the team can give more. I received offers within the past two years, but I didn't accept any of them. I spent the last two years watching and studying." He added.

The new Depor’s trainer was also explaining his playing style, “ I won't put the bus at the goal, because I want a competitive side, a joyful team. Truly the first thing that you notice is that this team has allowed a lot of goals. It's tough to make a diagnosis at this point; for now I will try to bring my experience, so we can have a solid team at Sevilla. The lack of confidence of the team is not only a product of not winning games. I need to discover the other reasons."

Finally, the Galician man talked of Depor’s chances of clinching the permanence, "It isn't easy, but there are chances. I always say that eleven players that are united are always tough to beat. I have the feeling that we won't need 42 points to achieve the permanence. But for now what we need to do is to defeat Sevilla."
