Deportivo have dropped eight points caused by allowing goals within the last fifteen minutes; actually the Galician outfit is the second club among the top-five European leagues that have conceded more goals in this frame of the games (15).

Any fan could have had a feeling of déjŕ vu as Real Madrid picked the three points in Saturday’s game after scoring twice within the last stretch of the game, and it’s that the terrible season of Deportivo is marked by one powerful stat: the Galicians are the second club among the top-five leagues in Europe that has allowed the largest number of goals within the last fifteen minutes of the league games (15).

Eleven clubs in Spain, UK, Italy, Germany and France have conceded thirteen or more goals within the last fifteen minutes of this season’s league matches: Cagliari Calcio (16), Depor (15), Aston Villa FC (15), USC Palermo (14), Genoa CFC (14), ES Troyes (14), SC Bastia (14), Getafe CF (13), RCD Mallorca (13), Reading FC (13), Newcastle United (13) –in Germany the clubs with more goals allowed in this frame of the games are TSG 1899 Hoffenheim & Werder Bremen (12)-

And eight of those goals have cost seven vital points to Deportivo, points that would have put the club closer to the permanence. It all started on September 16 as Deportivo was winning 0-1 visiting Granada CF, but a goal of Flore Flores ten minutes before the final whistle meant to end 1-1. First two points dropped for the Galicians.

One week later (Sept 24), Oltra’s team was hosting Sevilla CF; the score was 0-0 until the goals of Negredo and Rakitic gave the three points to the locals. That was the first home defeat of the season and the first loss at the Riazor in more than a year.

Then, on December 2, Deportivo was clinching a comeback against Real Betis playing at the Riazor. The score was 0-2 in favour of the visiting side by minute 54, six minutes later it was all equal after a brace of Riki, but a goal of Campbell scored at minute 76 meant a new defeat at home. There was a lot of controversy in this game, because just five minutes before the winning goal, Oltra removed a defender –Roderick- in order to put an attacker –Bodipo-

And there were three new cases in 2013; on January 26, Depor was defeating Valencia CF at half-time playing at the Riazor (2-1), then Valdes scored at minute 62, and Ricardo Costa scored the winning goal in the stoppage time, just three minutes before Pizzi had wasted a great opportunity to clinch the victory.

On February 2, Deportivo were having the biggest chance of clinching the first away victory on the season, this after scoring an early goal before a ten-men Getafe’s squad, but later the Madrilenians equalized and scored two more goals at minutes 80 & 83. Another point going into the garbage.

The final chapter of this story was last Saturday; Deportivo completed a great first half  against Real Madrid; one more time having a favourable score (1-0), but Kaká equalized at minute 72 while the winning goal of the visiting side came three minutes before the end.

There were more goals allowed in this frame of time, though they didn’t cost points as Deportivo were already losing by minute 75; as example the goal of Messi at the Riazor that meant the partial 3-5 at the Riazor (Oct 20), the goal of Barkero at minute 81 of the home meeting against Levante UD when the score was already 0-1 (Nov 18), or the two goals conceded visiting Real Zaragoza when the score was already 3-2 (Nov 10).
