The worst month for Deportivo in decades as the Galician outfit was unable to clinch any single point during February; still Riki probed to be the best player and was recognized by the peña members of Deportivo-la-coruna.com

Another horrible month for Deportivo, who failed to add a single point in the four disputed Liga games between matchdays 22 & 25. A change of coach (for the second time in a matter of months), only 3 goals scored and 10 conceded, key injuries and a loss of form of some key players – all these things added to the gloom surrounding the club.

But there were two bright stories in February concerning two of the veterans at the squad. Juan Carlos Valerón has made a big impact since his return after being out of favour with previous coach Domingos Paciência. El Flaco received points in three of the games played (v Granada, v Sevilla & v Real Madrid) and was even nominated the Man of the Match (MOM) against Granada CF.

But the player who inspired the most is Iván Sánchez Rico ‘Riki’. The centre forward appeared in the points list in all four games and achieved two MOM awards against Getafe CF and Real Madrid. He brought his goal tally for the season to 10 with his strike against Sevilla and Madrid, but it was clearly his competitive attitude that impressed the Peña members during this spell.

Unfortunately, things weren’t so pleasant for two of our regular starters. Abel Aguilar and Bruno Gama have failed to impress. Aguilar has had injury and suspension problems, but Gama remains a starter in the side despite creating a negative record of -2 points in a single month.

The final impression is of a positive upward trend in the overall team performance. After two poor performances versus Getafe CF and Granada CF, the games against Sevilla CF and Real Madrid were considered as good by the members.
