Youngster Bicho is calling the attention of the media since last season thanks to his performance at Cadete A. On this campaign he was promoted to Juvenil A and was also picked to Spain’s U-17 squad. Even Fernando Vázquez is following his evolution.

Javier Fernández Abruñedo ´Bicho´ is one of the sensations of Abegondo since last season; the true is that the 16-year-old player is part of the club since his stage at Alevines, but it was his impressive season at Cadete A the factor that put him on the map. And it’s that he scored 37 goals in 34 matches playing with the team during last season.

The Sada-born kid is a technical gifted left-footed player that was playing as a winger with Cadetes, but that’s currently performing as a playmaker with Juveniles. He impressed so much that the club decided to promote him directly to Juvenil A; currently he’s the fourth player with more minutes at the team (2,048 in 25 games scoring 5 goals and providing 4 assists).

In November he offered an interview to website Vavel.com and described himself as a player, ”I´m a player that likes to have the ball, and I also like to create the game appearing by the centre, but especially by the sides. I prefer to participate in a solid play that could end in a goal or provide with an assist rather than to score; still, I must improve a lot.”

Currently Bicho is part of Spain’s U-17 squad that’s participating in the UEFA Elite Round that’s taking place in Croatia. He was a starter in the game against the host (loss 2-3) and played 50 minutes [the games last 80 minutes]

And last week coach Fernando Vázquez told during a press conference that he’s thinking in picking him in order to train with the first team. It’s his first step towards the professionalism. It doesn’t mean that he will debut soon in an official competition; after all he’s only 16 and needs to confirm his spot at Juvenil A first and later debut with Deportivo B, but it can be said that his future is looking promising.
