Deportivo need to cover all the details in the battle to avoid relegation, and this include the possible tie-breakers at the end of la liga tournament. Until this point the Galicians already won two of these tie-breakers and lost one.

The rules in the Spanish La Liga say that, in case of having two teams tied in points at the end of the season, the team that will end above is the one winning the particular series against the other team. It’s one of the details that must be covered in a dogfight to avoid relegation that could end up being really tight.

Until this point six teams are involved in the fight to avoid relegation, including Deportivo, and the Galicians already won the series against two of the five direct rivals: CA Osasuna and RC Celta. A third series was already lost: Granada CF

Against the Navarrans, Depor won 2-0 at the Riazor and lost 1-2 at the Reyno de Navarra, so the aggregate score is 3-2 thanks to a late goal scored by Camuñas in the returning match. Bigger is the difference with RC Celta; the game at Balaídos during the first round ended 1-1, and with the 3-1 of the past derby played at the Riazor the aggregate score is now 4-1.

The series that was already lost is the one against Granada CF. The match in the first round ended 1-1, but the Andalusians clinched a huge 0-3 win at the Riazor, so they won the series with a 1-4 aggregate. The other two series will be defined in the coming two games.

Many people believe that the only thing that matters for Depor in Sunday’s visit to the Iberostar stadium is a victory, but it’s also true that a draw is positive; after all Deportivo won the match at the Riazor during the first round (1-0), so any draw will give the Galicians a new advantage in the tie-breaker. The series against Real Zaragoza is more complicated after losing 3-5 in the match of the first round, so Depor need at least a 2-0 in the second game in order to win this tie-breaker.

Finally, to remember that if three or more clubs are tied in points at the end of the tournament then the final positions are determined by the results had between the clubs involved in the fight, and Deportivo have a solid record against the direct rivals, after all three of the four victories on the league campaign were conquered against these direct rivals.
