Marchena is the only defender at Deportivo that has been involved in all the victories of Deportivo, but there are other defenders with a positive impact as Manuel Pablo and Aythami. Aranzubia, Pizzi and Bruno Gama are the other players with a perfect mark.

It’s hard to calculate the impact that a player could have in the mark of victories of any football team, especially if this player is a defender, but in A Coruña it calls the attention that centre-back Carlos Marchena is the only defender that has been a starter in the seven liga victories of Deportivo.

It doesn’t mean that Depor are invincible when the ex-Valencia man is on the pitch, after all he was a starter in 8 of 17defeats suffered on this season, but still it leaves the impression that Marchena has been an important piece on the plans of the three coaches that have worked with the team throughout the campaign.

A curious fact is that the streak of four straight victories that pulled Deportivo out of the drop zone ended as soon as Marchena got injured, after his exit from the starting lineup the team has only picked three draws and a defeat in the following four matches.

It might be worrying taking in mind that Depor at least need two more victories to clinch the permanence, but there are other players having a positive impact in the results of the team. Starting with Bruno Gama, who is the only player that has participated in all the 35 games disputed so far.

Other two players that have participated in all the victories of the Blanquiazul team during the liga tournament are goalkeeper Daniel Aranzubia and left winger Luís Miguel Afonso Fernandes ‘Pizzi’. Playmaker Juan Carlos Valerón participated in 6 of those 7 wins and only skipped the 1-0 victory over Malaga CF.

There are other defenders with a positive mark at Deportivo, like the friend Valerón, Manuel Pablo, who was a starter in 6 of the 7 victories of the season; he just missed the 1-0 win over RCD Mallorca. Centre-back Aythami Artiles played in 5 of the 7 liga wins, only missing the clash with RCD Mallorca and the 1-0 victory over Malaga CF.

Finally, side defender Sílvio Azevedo has participated in four of the five victories of the team since landing at the club; he just missed the 1-0 win over Malaga CF and it was because the paperwork of his loan contract wasn’t ready yet.
