Abel Aguilar returns and Fernando Vázquez is only having the casualties of Laure, Marchena and Salomão. The rival is practically playing for nothing and arrives to the Riazor with three key absences for the game, plus three injury cases.

A final for Deportivo as the three points are key in the quest for the salvation; RCD Espanyol visit the Riazor on Sunday (17h00 CET) and coach Fernando Vázquez has been boosted by the fact that he’s recovering centre-midfielder Abel Aguilar, who has missed the last two games due to a calf injury. The Colombian is a key player in the lineup and his return means great news.

Some of the players were dragging physical problems after a long season, in this sense right-back Manuel Pablo, playmaker Juan Carlos Valerón and striker Riki didn’t complete all the training sessions on the week. In the case of the Madrilenian attacker he skipped the trainings on Tuesday and Wednesday, but was back for Thursday.  The other two only missed one session.

In any case the trio will be available for Sunday’s match. Centre-back Ze Castro didn’t train on Thursday due to gastroenteritis, but he should be back on Friday. So, only three players are going to miss the game due to injury reasons: right-back Laureano Sanabria ‘Laure’ (groin), left winger Diogo Salomão (calf) and centre-back Carlos Marchena (quadriceps strain).

In the case of Laure, the Madrilenian already joined the group and completed the three sessions of the week, but he doesn’t have the medical okay as he’s lacking match fitness, probably he won’t play in the last three games on the schedule, but it means positive news ahead of next season. Salomão has been off the whole week and it isn’t certain when he could be back.

Marchena, meanwhile, has been training apart and it was said that he was going to miss the rest of the season after suffering the injury in the visit to Levante UD (April 13), but the defender is pushing in order to be available for the final matchday against Real Sociedad and could even try to force himself in the attempt to be ready for the visit to Malaga CF, but it will depend on his feelings during next week. He’ll make a test in the first days in order to see if he can resist the physical effects of the training.

Finally, a thing that has called the attention is a signboard at Abegondo that was hanging up on Wednesday; it was a message against Real Zaragoza: “Year after year, the briefcase saves El Maño” A clear reference to the miracles of Real Zaragoza saving themselves at the last matchdays during past seasons. The signboard was put in the area for the public, but the club didn’t allow it and in the end the fans hanged it in the outside, behind the training pitch of the first team.

At RCD Espanyol, the team still has some chances of reaching the European seats, though the Catalans need a series of combinations within the last three matchdays. Also, during the week it was known that the RFEF didn’t granted the European license, so the club is not having the permission to play in the UEFA competitions, though the club’s officials expect to get it as soon as they present new documentation, apparently the problem is that they haven’t paid the wages of some former players of the first team.

Coach Javier Aguirre also has problems in order to build up a lineup for the game, because he has six players out of the meeting. Three players are suspended: left-back Joan Capdevila, plus centre-backs Juan Forlín and Víctor Sánchez, the last two have been performing as centre midfielders. These three men are normal starters and their performance helped the team to react in the second round of la liga.

Meanwhile, goalkeeper Cristian Álvarez (thigh), right-back Felipe Mattioni (knee) and striker Samuele Longo (shoulder) are out injured. Brazilian Mattioni hasn’t played any game on the season after needing two knee surgeries, while Italian Longo is out for the rest of the season as he needed surgery to correct his shoulder problems. He came loaned from F.C. Internazionale Milano and scored 3 goals in 18 games.

Besides, centre-back Héctor Moreno is doubtful as he has been unable to train during the week due to an adductor muscle problem. Uruguayan striker Cristian Stuani (muscle) and Bulgarian winger Martin Petrov (back pain) were dragging physical problems, but they already joined the trainings and should be available for Sunday.

Capdevila talked during the week about this meeting, ”Nobody likes to lose, not even playing marbles with friends, but the need tells you that Depor is the favourite team. We are going to hurry up our options in order to play in Europe, but all I know is that Depor are going to win the last two matches.”
