Fernando Vázquez won’t be able to present the same lineup that clinched four straight wins in the last stretch of the season, this since Carlos Marchena is not fit to play. The Madrilenian defender is the only casualty for Saturday.

Deportivo have always had at least one casualty for each one of the 37 Primera matchdays disputed on this season, it was expected that this situation was going to be broken for the final game on the league tournament, but it won’t be like that as coach Fernando Vázquez announced on Thursday that centre-back Carlos Marchena isn’t fit to play despite completing the last training session.

The Madrilenian defender has been sidelined due to a quadriceps injury since the game against Levante UD (Apr 13); he joined the trainings on this week and seemed ready to return during the crucial match against Real Sociedad. But Depor’s trainer ruled out the option during his pre-match press conference. Still, some journalists believe this is only a strategy to diverge the attention.

But for the moment Marchena is an official casualty for Saturday, at least until the coach releases the list of picked players on Friday, though the doubt might continue until Saturday if the Galician tactician decides to pick all the players for the meeting, which is a very probable scenario that was already saw in the past visit to Malaga CF.

The absence of Marchena means that Vázquez won’t be able to repeat the lineup that clinched four straight victories two months ago (RC Celta, RCD Mallorca, Real Zaragoza and Levante UD). The ex-Valencia man is the only casualty at the team as the rest of the men are fit to play.

Now Vázquez searches for that winning team that can clinch the permanence and it could be the same team that clinched the last victory at home facing RCD Espanyol. Manuel Pablo returns from a suspension and claims the spot at the right-back position.

The rest could be the same lineup, with Sílvio Azevedo returning to the left side of the defense. Aythami Artiles skipped the first two sessions of the week due to a quadriceps muscle injury, but he was already training on Thursday. The Canarian was hardly criticized after committing two key errors in the visit to Malaga CF, but it seems that he will stay at the formation alongside Ze Castro at the central positions.

Abel Aguilar and Juan Dominguez are ready to keep playing at midfield, many people were suggesting that Diogo Salomão should be a starter after having an acceptable performance in the twenty minutes that he spent on the pitch facing  Malaga CF, which included a goal scored.

However, the most probable scenario is to see Fernando Vázquez repeating the same diamond figure of recent months, with Bruno Gama and Pizzi attacking from the wings, Juan Carlos Valerón performing at the playmaking function and Riki as the central attacker.

Many rumours during this week have pointed out that this could be the last game of Juan Carlos Valerón playing at Deportivo, the only fact is that the player doesn’t want to talk of the subject until ending the season, so the doubt should be resolved starting on Sunday.

The Canarian playmaker is the symbol of Deportivo and since joining the club in 2000 he has made 421 appearances for the Galicians in official games, he’s the fourth player with more official presentations at the club, only behind Fran (599), Mauro Silva (459) and Manuel Pablo (440).
