VÁZQUEZ WILL CONTINUE AT DEPORTIVO

09 Jun 2013
The continuity of Fernando Vázquez was confirmed on Saturday. The Galician coach will coach Deportivo for the next two seasons and has the opportunity to extend the deal in one more year in case of sealing the promotion to Primera.

Deportivo already have a coach for the season 2013/14 and is Fernando Vázquez, the coach that couldn’t avoid the relegation in the last stretch of the season that has just ended. It wasn’t a surprise as both parties manifested their will to prolong their link after the relegation. The contract is a two-year deal that can be extended for a third campaign in case Depor clinch the promotion to Primera División in the next two years.

Still, the terms of the contract weren’t agreed until Friday. It was commented that the club was only offering €100,000 as the wages of the coach, which included the salary of second coach Manuel Pombo. According to several journalists in A Coruña the final agreement was for €200,000.

But what focused the attention was the weight that the Galician trainer is going to have at the club. It was commented that Vázquez wants to have big control over the work with the academy, but it isn’t know yet the extent of this “new powers”

The coach is going to be presented on Monday at the Riazor (19h15 CET) and perhaps then he will reveal details of his new role at the club. What seems clear is that the new Deportivo will be based in the youngster coming out from the youth teams, something already manifested by him and also by Depor’s president.

Fernando Vázquez earned the respect of the fans and the media during the season 2012/13; Deportivo lived a tough situation at the beginning of the second round, but the Galician man was always peaceful inside the press room and passionate in front of the fans. The team didn’t clinch the permanence, but the Castrofeito-born man presented a decent mark of five victories, four draws and six defeats. His team scored twenty goals and allowed nineteen.
