THE FANS ARE RESPONDING

20 Jun 2013
Deportivo could end up having more than 25,000 season subscribers for the third time in a row; for the moment 13,751 persons have renewed their memberships or have signed for the first time, it’s a solid number despite the relegation.

The situation might be depressing inside of Deportivo La Coruña after the relegation to Segunda, especially for the deep financial problems affecting the club, but there’s one thing bringing hope back to the fans: the reaction of the fans themselves.

And it’s that the socios have been taking advantage of the special prices announced by the club in order to renew their and, despite the economic crisis hitting Spain, they already passed the barrier of the 13,000 season subscribers, aka socios.

The numbers are similar to the ones had on the season of the previous relegation, in June of 2011 the club reached the mark of 15,000 socios, by Wednesday the mark was 13,817, within the last two weeks around 800 persons per day were renewing their memberships or signing for the first time, but this will change, because what happened is that the club had special prices and the offer ended on Tuesday.

The offer of the club left the prices between the €120 (Parados, Pabellón Inferior) and the €535 (Tribuna Superior). These packages were for the full Segunda season composed by 42 matches, the Copa Del Rey games, plus the Teresa Herrera and even the matches of Deportivo B.

With the new rates that are applicable since Wednesday the prices are between the €124 (Parados, Pabellón Inferior) and the €550 (Tribuna Superior). Always taking in mind that there’s a different rate for new socios: between the €130 (Parados, Pabellón Inferior) and the €578 (Tribuna Superior).

Truly the differences in some cases are lower than €10, but to have in mind that if the socios renewed or signed a new subscription after Wednesday then the package doesn’t include all the games to be played in the season, because there will be matches in which they will have to make an extra-payment in order to attend to the stadium, these matches are known as “club days” and usually are the biggest games on the season (2 or 3).

Deportivo made an effort in order to have accessible prices; despite the club went into administration back in January the board of directors decided to absorb the 3% for the increase in the BAT (from 18% to 21% during the last summer).

The club is convinced that it will reach the mark of 20,000 socios on this season, and there’s even the chance to reach the 25,000, which has happened within the last two seasons. Only two clubs at Segunda could end reaching the mark of 20,000 subscribers on the campaign that’s about to begin: Real Zaragoza and Sporting Gijón. Actually, some Primera clubs like Getafe CF, RC Celta or Rayo Vallecano will have lesser socios on the season.
