ENDING THE STAGE IN MONFORTE DE LEMOS

26 Jul 2013
Deportivo end today the stage in Monforte playing the first friendly matches on the pre-season; the intensity of the training has prevailed and there are several injury cases, the hardest one is the serious injury of Lemos.

The second stage on the pre-season for the first team of Deportivo ends today. Like it happened in the first stage the intensity of the sessions has been pretty high, with tough physical routines and tactical training, but this time mixed with relaxation exercises and spa sessions. The training practices took place at the Pinguela stadium and the relaxation sessions at Hotel Augas Santas, the headquarters of the team.

Coach Fernando Vázquez had 27 players at the beginning of the stage; he’s now returning  to A Coruña with the same number, though there were some novelties, because new signing Rudy arrived for the last two days and at the same time winger Álvaro Lemos left the concentration after suffering a serious knee injury.

During the stage the first team played the first three friendly matches on the pre-season; firstly with a demolishing 9-0 win over Club Lemos (July 17), then a 3-1 win over RC Vilalbés (July 20) and finally a 3-0 victory over UD Barbadás (July 22). The fourth game on the pre-season will be disputed today as Deportivo face CD Ourense at the Pinguela stadium (19h00 CET).

That game against CD Ourense was going to be played on Thursday, but this game was rescheduled due to the tragic events occurred in Santiago de Compostela as a train derailed causing many casualties.. To mention that centre midfielder Juan Dominguez had to leave the concentration as his aunt and one of his cousins were in the train, it has been confirmed that both are dead.

This incident affected the stage in Monforte, because originally it was going to last until Thursday, but since the match against CD Ourense was postponed then the club decided to stay for an additional day. Now there will be a training practice on Friday’s morning and the team returns to A Coruña after the fourth friendly on the pre-season. Still, it has been commented that this game could be suspended in case the players decide to join Juan Dominguez during the funeral of his relatives.

The intensive trainings are dragging a long list of casualties at the first team, Lemos is out for the next six months with a knee ligaments injury after twisting his knee during Tuesday’s training. He will be operated today.

Other players dragging problems are centre-back Stefan Deák (hip), left-back Ayoze Diaz (hamstring), centre midfielder Álex Bergantiños (Achilles), centre-back Aythami Artiles (psoas), goalkeeper German Lux (hamstring) and attacker Rudy (toe luxation). This last player hasn’t trained yet with the team.

After today’s game against CD Ourense, the first team will return to Abegondo in order to complete the third and last stage on the pre-season. The club will continue with intense sessions on next week and will play four new friendly games before the debut in liga: Pontevedra CF (July 28), FC Arouca (July 31), Rio Ave (August 3) and Real Oviedo (August 6). It’s possible to have a fifth friendly game in this period as the Segunda tournament begins until August 18.
