The Catalan keeper informed on Saturday that he’s leaving Deportivo. Fernando Vázquez had told him that there was no room for him at the first team, though Aranzubia remain at the door out. A new keeper could be signed.

Unexpected exit at Deportivo as Marc Martinez announced his departure from the club. Just one month ago it was expected he was going to be picked by coach Fernando Vázquez in order to make the pre-season with the first team, after all Dani Aranzubia has been at the door out since Depor suffered the relegation to Segunda.

With German Lux signing a renewal it seemed clear that the Argentine goalie was going to be the starter at the first team, Marc was the main candidate to be the substitute, while Rodrigo and David Gómez were going to be promoted in order to play at Fabril.

But things were more complicated than that. It turns out that Fernando Vázquez wasn’t content with the performance of Marc Martinez, reason why he wasn’t picked among the other eleven Fabril’s players that were part of the stage in Monforte de Lemos.

Last week Marc was picked in order to begin the pre-season with Deportivo B and, as soon as he realized that he wasn’t going to have a chance at the first team, he decided to leave. It has been commented that the keeper will play at Elche B.

The exit of the Catalan goalie means that Deportivo could be forced to make an extra-signing during the summer market. Aranzubia remains at the club, but it’s expected that he will leave; the same should happen with Felipe Ramos, who’s currently training with Depor B. This means that Fernando Vázquez will need a second keeper at the first team and it will be necessary to get it from the outside.

Marc Martinez arrived to Deportivo in 2011 coming from Racing Santander B and since then he only missed four games at Tercera División; two of them for suspension and in other opportunity as he was joining the first team because Dani Aranzubia was suspended and he needed to be the substitute keeper on the bench. Totally he played 78 matches with Deportivo B.

On his Twitter account, the keeper left a message saying good-bye: “Thanks to all Deportivismo; these two years were intense. I never imagined that I was going to be so happy in a land that isn’t my homeland… I want to thank my partners, my coaches and especially Sambade, and off course anyone else. These two seasons were great to me, especially for making my debut at the first team playing a friendly against Rayo. I had a solid first season with Fabril and cannot forget the orgasm of Tarragona and how to forget the day of the promotion, later a second incredible season with Fabril, remembering my debut in a list of picked players for the trip to San Mamés… and other unhappy moments as the injury of my partner Jesús Vázquez, the relegation against Real and the tie against El Palo. I can only say thank you from my heart and no matter what happens you are Depor! Voltaremos!”
