Many questions at both teams ahead of the first matchday at Segunda División; Deportivo and UD Las Palmas are hurrying up their moves in the transfer window and the coaches have many doubts for Saturday’s match.

Unusual week at Deportivo, with exits, arrivals and without the feeling the league season is about to begin after the uncertainty lived during the summer. But this Saturday the Galician outfit starts to compete at Segunda visiting UD Las Palmas (Estadio de Gran Canaria, 19h00 CET).

Coach Fernando Vázquez still trying to solve the puzzle as his squad isn’t completed yet. He’s lacking attackers and will have to improvise for the opening matchday.  Actually, he still has to define the final squad according to the arrivals and will fill the gaps with the promoted players from Fabril, so this match can be considered as the final test for some of the players.

During this week Vázquez has been training with twenty-seven players, nineteen are from the first team and the other eight are the remaining youngsters from Depor B that begun the pre-season. So far, keeper David Vázquez, centre midfielder Oumar Sidibé and playmaker Jorge Romay have rejoined the B team.

At least the long list of casualties carried by the team during the pre-season is finally over. At this point the only confirmed casualty at the first team is centre-back Aythami Artiles, who’s dragging a suspension from last season (he saw the fifth yellow card in the last game against Real Sociedad). Then, there are two Fabril’s players that were making the pre-season with the team and that are out due to injury reasons: wingers Cañi (hamstring) and Álvaro Lemos (knee), the latter won’t return until January.

The rest of players are fit to play, including new signing Rudy, who didn’t play in any of the friendly games due to a toe problem. The Portuguese received the medical okay on Wednesday. There were three players working apart at the beginning of the week: centre-back Stefan Deák (muscle), playmaker Bicho (knock) and striker Dani Iglesias (Soleus), but they joined the trainings on Wednesday.

Bruno Gama hasn’t trained with the team during this week, because he was concentrated with Portugal for the friendly game against The Netherlands (1-1). He should be back for today’s session. Precisely the possible exit of the Portuguese winger is one of the main worries at the club; he has been linked with Ukraine club FC Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk, but at least he should play with Depor during the weekend.

Rudy and the other three new signings, Cezary Wilk, Juan Culio and Javier Arizmendi, were already inscribed in la liga, but left-back Luisinho wasn’t inscribed as he is still pending on the signal of the administrators. The same goes with Alex Geijo, who is already in Spain waiting to confirm his signing for Depor.

At UD Las Palmas, there’s also uncertainty as coach Sergio Lobera still waiting for the last reinforcements, besides he already has three confirmed casualties. Right-back Ángel López is dragging a knee injury and is already out of the clash, while centre midfielder Javi Castellano and Nigerian striker Macky Chrisantus are dragging a suspension from last year.

Juan Carlos Valerón will be available for the game after suffering a knock during Saturday’s friendly game against Atlético Madrid; it was feared the worst, but the scans detected it was a minor muscle problem and it’s probable that El Flaco will play against his former team. New signing Bulgarian Spas Delev has big chances of been the starting striker after his transferred arrived on Tuesday.

Lobera is still trying to reinforce the squad with a new centre-back, one offensive midfielder, one winger and one attacker. The president of the club, Miguel Ángel Ramírez, already stated that they are negotiating with several players, but that they aren’t hurried in closing the deals.
