BRUNO GAMA LEAVES DEPORTIVO

19 Aug 2013
The happiness after the victory against UD Las Palmas was suddenly replaced by a feeling of sadness as the club confirmed the departure of Bruno Gama. The Portuguese is signing a three-year deal with FC Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk.

Bruno Gama leaves Deportivo after two years at the Galician club. The news was confirmed on Saturday’s midnight. The Portuguese winger is joining Ukrainian club FC Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk signing a three-year deal for an unclosed fee; the rumour is that they are paying  €2. 5 million; of this amount between the 20% (€500,000) and the 30% (€750,000) are for the club.

Deportivo were trying to keep the player as the board of directors was conscious of his importance at the team, after all he was the best signing on the season 2011/12 and one of the best players during the past Primera season, but the financial problems and the pressure to fulfill the conditions of the new salary cap rule were stronger.

The exit of Bruno could be joined by the departure of Assunção and Ze Castro within the coming hours, it will also allow the arrival of goalkeeper Fabricio, strikers Borja Bastón and Geijo, plus left-back Luisinho, quartet that’s waiting for news in order to join Deportivo.

Bruno Gama arrived to Deportivo for the season 2011/12 with the Galician outfit paying around €250,000 in a complex operation with Rio AVE FC and Jorge Mendes. He was important in the promotion campaign to Primera División and last year he was only one of the few players at liga BBVA that played as a starter in the 38 matchdays, he also scored six goals plus providing five assists.

On Sunday’s noon, the winger talked to the media and expressed his gratitude to the club, “I leave with the club and the fans on my heart, since the first day I felt like at home. People always treated me pretty well in these two years, for this reason everything is more difficult. I want to thank the club, the president and the officials, also the people with whom I worked: the coaches, the physiotherapists, doctors and also my team mates, who during these two years were part of a phenomenal group in both, the good and bad moments.”

About his departure, the Portuguese player said that, “It was the best for all of us. I am feeling motivated to continue working. During this week there were contacts, but it was until the end of the week that we closed everything. There were offers, I won’t talk of it, but in the end it’s the best for everybody, so I’m content because I can help the club; I’m aware of the situation they are living.”

Finally, Bruno Gama wished the best for Depor in the new season, “I believe we have a strong team to clinch the promotion. I’ convinced that we’ve a strong squad for it. Now I am one more fan and will follow the news from the distance. We didn’t clinch the salvation on last year, now I am convinced that my partners will make anything possible to fulfill the goal. In the future I want to wear again the shirt of Deportivo. Thanks to everyone.”
